Job description

Title: House Manager & Family Assistant
Location: San Jose, CA
Employment Type: Part-time (1520 hours/week + weekly date night and monthly overnight)
Start Date: ASAP (ideally January 2026)
Compensation: $3540/hour

We are a professional family of four in San Jose seeking a highly organized and proactive House Manager & Family Assistant to help keep our home running smoothly and provide flexible family support. With two working parents one in medicine and one in tech with frequent travel we're looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic household and takes initiative with calm confidence, maturity, and care. This is a long-term role for someone who is reliable, thoughtful and enjoys spending time with kids. In addition to day to day tasks, there is opportunity to take ownership for larger organizational projects in the home.

Key Responsibilities

Household Management & Organization
Daily home reset and light housekeeping (tidying,kitchen reset)
Proactive organization of pantry, closets, kids' clothing rotation, toy systems
Manage family laundry (wash/dry/fold) including bedding/towels
Track & restock essentials (toiletries, groceries, kids' supplies)

Meal Preparation & Errands
Prep 23 simple, healthy family dinners weekly (plant-forward, flexible with proteins)
Light lunch prep support (cut fruit, stock lunch items for next day)
Grocery shopping and pantry/fridge management
Errands: occasional household pickups

Family & Child Support
Transport children to after-school activities (Mondays & Wednesdays. Family car available to drive)
Occasional school pickups or backup coverage when dad travels
Engaging playtime with kids especially arts/crafts, outdoor activities, garden fun
Evening babysitting 12x/month
Occasional overnight support when mom is on call (approx. 1x/month) or when parents travel

Seasonal / Special Projects
Garage organization, quarterly household maintenance coordination (e.g. HVAC filters, solar cleaning, garden care)
Light support with travel prep, packing systems, gift organization

Schedule

MondayFriday, approx. 10am2pm core hours
Wednesdays must include 2:306:30pm for swimming transportation
Additional hours for evening/date nights (23 hrs) and occasional overnight coverage
Approx. 1520 hrs/week with flexibility on both sides

Ideal Candidate

Warm, calm, proactive, and deeply reliable
Strong with young children (ages 3 and 6) energetic and genuinely enjoys engaging with them
Exceptionally organized and anticipatory spots needs before being asked
Communicative and professional good judgment and discretion
Has reliable transportation and clean driving record (family car provided for duties)

Compensation & Structure
$3540/hour, depending on experience
Open to W2 or 1099 depending on candidate preference
