Our expertise span multiple core segments of the heavy highway and bridge construction arena, across Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.


Summary: The Safety Engineer supports the implementation of health and safety policies, ensuring compliance and promoting a safe work environment across job sites and facilities. This role involves assisting in program development, incident investigation, and collaboration with project teams to foster a culture of safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Program Support & Compliance:

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring site-specific safety programs (e.g., HASPs) in alignment with company policies and OSHA/ANSI standards.
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and hazard analyses to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to training requirements (e.g., OSHA 500) and maintain safety equipment/PPE.

Incident Management & Reporting:

  • Assist in investigations of accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; document findings and recommend preventive measures.
  • Coordinate with project managers and clients for reporting and compliance.

Collaboration & Training:

  • Participate in site orientations and safety training for employees and subcontractors.
  • Assist in reviewing safety submittals, AHAs, and work plans for hazard mitigation.
  • Support the organization of safety meetings and toolbox talks.

Technical & Administrative Duties:

  • Assist in monitoring leading/lagging indicators, analyzing injury/incident trends, and managing case/return-to-work programs.
  • Maintain safety documentation and software systems (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Procore).

 


Qualifications/Skills Required:

 

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering, Safety, Occupational Health, or related field.
  • Preferred: OSHA 30-Hour Training or equivalent safety certifications.
  • Preferred: BCSP Construction Health and Safety Technician.

 Experience:

  • 0-2 years of experience in construction/industrial safety or a related field; previous internships or entry-level roles are welcome.

 Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Spanish-speaking skills are highly preferred to communicate with diverse teams and stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction management software is preferred, as it enhances the ability to manage safety data and compliance efficiently.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

 Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to relocate for the project duration if applicable.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Reports to: Corporate Health and Safety, servicing the Martins VP of Operations.

Location: Falls Church, VA

Compensation: $60,000 to $80,000 annually commensurate with experience
