Job description

Description:

Safety Controls Technology (SCT), a nationally recognized occupational safety and health consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Safety Manager / Safety Specialist to support construction and industrial clients in the Southeast Washington, DC area. If you're passionate about protecting workers, leading from the front, and driving a culture of safety excellence, this is your opportunity to make a lasting difference driving regulatory compliance, reducing risk, and advancing client safety culture through proactive leadership, assessment, training, and incident management.

Ideal Candidate

You're a safety professional with at least five years of hands-on EHS experience in construction or manufacturing, your OSHA 30 in hand, and a knack for spotting hazards before they become incidents. You're comfortable wearing many hats such as auditor, trainer, investigator, and first responder and you're looking to build lasting client relationships across the Southeast DC area. You take pride in leading from the front and driving a genuine culture of safety, not just checking compliance boxes.

Requirements:

What You'll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive, site-wide safety and health risk assessments to identify hazards and prioritize mitigation efforts
  • Promote and enforce construction site and plant safety compliance in accordance with federal, state, local, and industry standards
  • Lead and participate in investigations of recordable injuries, high-risk incidents, illnesses, and near-miss events; perform root cause analyses and develop corrective/preventive action plans
  • Prepare detailed incident investigation reports and track corrective actions to closure
  • Support and enhance client safety culture by implementing proactive safety programs and performance improvement initiatives
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve auditing and inspection processes, including annual audits of safety, health, and industrial hygiene programs
  • Conduct annual safety risk assessments to quantify risk exposure and prioritize corrective actions, including oversight of contractor activities
  • Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and ergonomic assessments to reduce exposure to workplace hazards
  • Oversee and administer contractor safety programs at client sites
  • Maintain OSHA logs and ensure compliance with injury and illness recordkeeping requirements
  • Execute and coordinate required safety training programs in accordance with client expectations and OSHA requirements
  • Provide on-site medical response services, including first aid, emergency treatment, and initial illness care for injured or ill employees
  • Coordinate local case management activities, including transportation of injured employees to medical facilities and administration of workers' compensation processes
  • Maintain and update facility safety policies and procedures as part of an Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) meeting or exceeding OSHA standards
  • Champion SCT's 4E's philosophy (Engages, Enlists, Envisions, and Executes) throughout client organizations)

What You'll Need

  • OSHA 30 certification required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction and/or manufacturing environments supporting environmental, health, and safety operations
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable ANSI, NIOSH, ACGIH, and NFPA standards
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required
  • High school diploma required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
  • Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to move throughout construction and industrial environments, including climbing ladders and stairs
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively within normal parameters
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
