Manager, Safety Services

Location: OTP Customer Service Centers

Grade 15

Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, strategic, and people-focused Manager, Safety Services to lead our company-wide safety and security programs while helping create a culture where every employee returns home safely each day.

This leadership role offers an exciting opportunity to influence safety performance across a respected regional energy company. As Manager, Safety Services, you will collaborate with leaders throughout the organization, manage a dedicated safety team, champion innovative safety initiatives, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while advancing a proactive safety culture. You will play a critical role in supporting our employees, protecting company assets, and driving continuous improvement in safety and security programs throughout Otter Tail Power Company.

This position reports to Director HR & Safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and enhance company-wide safety, security, and compliance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and other applicable safety regulations.
  • Oversee safety training, reporting, audits, investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Analyze safety performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Safety Services staff while supporting safety committees across the company.
  • Manage Workers' Compensation cases, incident investigations, and return-to-work programs.
  • Serve as the primary company contact for regulatory agencies and safety-related partnerships.
  • Oversee physical security programs, support cybersecurity initiatives, and help protect company assets and employees.
  • Manage departmental budgets, PPE programs, safety supplies, and policy development.
  • Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and employee well-being throughout the organization.

Qualifications

We are looking for a passionate safety leader who combines technical expertise with strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field or equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience involving safety management responsibilities.
  • Experience working with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, claims management, Workers’ Compensation programs, safety training, and security-related functions.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive accountability, and foster employee development.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple priorities in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and organizational levels.
  • Ability to influence and guide teams, committees, leaders, and employees toward shared safety goals.
  • Ability to build trust and credibility throughout the organization.
  • Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

    • The expected offer for base compensation for this role is $117,000 - $161,000 annually. The actual compensation within the compensation range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
