Supervisor Electrical Engineering

At Otter Tail Power Company, our employees help us serve the communities we support by delivering reliable, affordable, and responsibly managed electricity. Our work ensures long-term reliability of the electric system while supporting the evolving needs of our customers and communities. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with transmission planning or power system operations experience to lead and support system planning activities across our transmission and distribution network.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will ensure Otter Tail Power’s transmission and distribution system is effectively planned to meet customer needs while maintaining compliance with applicable regional reliability standards and processes. You will lead, coordinate, and review the work of Transmission and Distribution Studies Engineers, engineering interns, and external partners supporting planningrelated efforts. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining a tenyear transmission plan; preparing supporting documentation for future transmission projects through the annual capital budgeting process; and representing Otter Tail Power in regional transmission planning studies and stakeholder groups.

You will serve as a central point of contact for MISO and SPP transmission studies, ensuring timely and accurate completion of all required data requests and compliance with applicable NERC Planning Standards. This role also represents Otter Tail Power’s technical interests in negotiations related to transmission contracts, supports the internal distribution interconnection process in accordance with state requirements, and acts as a technical resource to internal stakeholders across the organization. Building and maintaining strong working relationships with neighboring utilities and external partners is essential to success in this position.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and have experience in transmission planning or power system operations. Candidates must possess detailed knowledge of system planning principles, studies, standards, procedures, and engineering economics, along with sound engineering judgment and creativity to anticipate and solve complex power system challenges. The role requires the ability to evaluate alternatives through reasonable and logical engineering estimations, strong communication skills to effectively persuade and negotiate critical issues, and demonstrated leadership capabilities to guide teams and prioritize multiple concurrent assignments in support of shared goals and objectives.

We believe employment is a partnership and we expect excellence from our talented employees. To support our employees and help drive their career experience and goals.
