A Typical Day

The Site Safety Manager is responsible for planning, administering and supervising ongoing safety and health program to ensure a safe and healthy work place in accordance with all Federal, State (Cal/OSHA), local regulations and Hilmar Cheese Company policies and procedures.  Partners closely with site staff to create & lead initiatives striving toward a goal of zero workplace incidents.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and communicate policies, procedures and standards while ensuring conformance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements, company policies and organizational objectives.
  • Build capability of site resources to support implementation of safety programs - including developing site safety teams.
  • Lead site efforts to ensure that key safety operational controls are in place and that safety action items are resolved on a timely basis.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies and standards.
  • Identify action-based safety goals for site leadership team to support achievement of the site's safety targets and objectives.
  • Manage development and maintenance of training processes to ensure that required safety training is defined, addresses required content and is tracked to completion.
  • Participates in site workers' compensation program administration, including working with all parties to appropriately manage and support transitional duties.  Partners with local HR team when Interactive Process needs intersect with safety and health team.
  • Ensure that OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met.
  • Lead the investigation of accidents and injuries and prepare material and evidence as needed.
What You Will Need
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in Safety & Health leadership experience, preferably in a manufacturing background
  • Knowledge of procedures and practices of occupational Safety and Health and Hazardous Materials management systems.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local loss prevention regulations
  • Working knowledge of general industry safety and health standards (Fed-OSHA, Cal- OSHA), PSM and VPP. Familiarity with EPA, NFPA, ANSI and other regulatory/advisory agencies.
  • Proficient working with Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years of related experience or Master's degree and 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with implementing and/or facilitating BBS programs
  • Safety, Health, Hazardous Materials, Fire or related certifications.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, ANSI and other regulatory standards OHST (Occupational Health and Safety Technician) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional) certification.
  • Experience with OSHA VPP program requirements and application process

Salary Range: USD ($103,145.00 - $154,718.00) ANN 

The final compensation offered within this range will depend on factors including the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
