Overview

SAIIA Construction is now hiring a Site Safety Manager (Traveler).

Position Summary: The Traveling Site Safety Manager is responsible for, but not limited to supporting project site crews and Safety Specialists by visiting project sites, assessing the project site for unsafe work conditions, and working with project managers, project site supervision and safety personnel to properly control and minimize risks and hazards to protect employees, subcontractors and the customer.ย 

Location & Travel Details: Your first project will be based in Wilsonville, AL.ย  You'll get the opportunity to travel across the US, helping our team build renewable projects.ย This is a traveling position (up to 100%), where you will be onsite at a project location. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in any state throughout the US.ย You'll spend 8-12 months on average per project. We offer designated daily per diem in addition to base pay to support and help you cover living expenses.ย  ย A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided.

Responsibilities
  • Preview projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety and environmental related risks.ย ย 

  • Develops project site specific safety plan, EAP (Emergency Action Plan) and training for project sites.ย 

  • Visits active project sites to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with project site specific safety plans, and local, state and federal regulations.ย 

  • Documents unsafe work conditions, safety hazards and health hazards.ย 

  • Works with project management, site supervision and craft workers to develop and implement solutions to safety related findings on project sites.ย 

  • Determines corrective or preventative measures where necessary and follows up to ensure corrective and preventive measures are implemented.ย ย 

  • Manages contractors' safety programs and training; recommends changes as necessary for compliance.ย 

  • Audits orientation and annual safety training records for compliance.

  • Conducts investigations of accidents and injuries through employee interviews, equipment inspections and site inspections, carefully reviewing the integrity of personal protective equipment, materials, and project site specific gear.ย 

  • Recommends appropriate disciplinary action when safe work practices and policies are violated by employees and subcontractors.ย 

  • Provides updates to the Project Manager, Director of Safetyย on a regular basis.ย 

  • Ensures all required records and reports are up to date, accurate and submitted to comply with all internal processes, local, state, and federal regulations.ย 

  • Ensures project sites have the appropriate safety equipment.ย 

  • Manages Safety Specialists at project sites where assigned.ย 

  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety.ย 

ย Qualifications
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.ย 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related discipline preferred.ย 

  • 5-7 years construction safety managerial experience or equivalent combination of training and related experience.ย ย 

  • Experience and/or training in Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics preferred.ย ย 

  • Knowledge of and experience with OSHA, and EPA rules, regulations and reporting processes and procedures for construction safety.ย ย 

  • Ability to professionally represent the company when dealing with external organizations, regulatory bodies and with all organizational levels internally.ย 
  • Ability to communicate and train effectively.ย 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.ย ย 

  • Ability to exercise good business judgment and common sense when making recommendations and decisions.ย 

  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in an environment where numerous tasks and projects are occurring simultaneously.ย 

  • Ability to meet deadlines in short time frames.ย 

  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to interact and with all levels of the company at project sites and offices, and effectively deal with vendors, subcontractors, customers, and regulatory agencies.ย 

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.ย 

Supervisory Responsibilities:ย 

  • Plans, organizes, and manages the work of the Safety Specialists if necessary to ensure the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational expectations and requirements.ย 

  • Provide guidance to team members and monitors their performance, discipline, and attendance on regular basis.ย 

  • Responsible for professional development of Safety Specialists.ย 

  • Communicates and acts with a team-oriented mentality. ย 

  • Ensure positive morale and engagement of employees.ย ย 

  • Communicates and adheres to Company vision and values.ย 

  • Assist in employee recruitment, performance management, promotions, retention, and termination activities.ย 

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. Exposure consists of hot and cold temperatures and/or wet/humid conditions.ย ย
