  • We're pleased to offer a $1,200 sign-on bonus for newly hired Swim Instructors, paid in three installments at 3, 6, and 12 months of continuous employment. To qualify, candidates must be hired on or after December 1, 2025, obtain American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within 90 days of hire, maintain an average of at least 5 hours per week, and remain in good standing with satisfactory attendance and policy compliance. Rehires who have worked as a Swim Instructor/WSI at the South Bend Kroc Center within the past 12 months are not eligible.

Job Objective:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, and Aquatic Leads when applicable,Swim Instructorswillmonitoractivities,observeandprovideassistancetoswimmers, prevent accidents, protectlifeand enforce regulations as well as control access to the pool/deck.You must berescueready for anyemergencysituation;providing care up to the standard of your certification.Assistwith implementation of andteachswimming lessons and other aquatics programs. Provide support forswimlessons, record keeping, lesson cards and lesson plans.This position is also required to assist with general facility maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.All positionrequirementsarenecessarytoensure that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.Attendance at guard and quarterly instructor in-servicetrainingsisrequired.

What You Will Do:

• Ensurethe safety of each participant while making sure the lessons fit the participant's needs and class description.

• Perform setup,breakdownand maintenance of all lesson equipment

• Instruct swimming lessons of all ages and abilities by developing and following a structured lesson plan.

• Maintain attendance recordkeeping forswimlessons andmaintainan organized filing system of records and lesson plans.

• Responsible to ensure customer satisfactionin regards toswim lessons and other aquatic programs

• May work with any aspect of aquatic programs.

• Other tasks as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications: Therequirements belowrepresentthe minimal education, experience, skills, and abilitiesrequiredfor this position.

Education: Minimum age of 16years

Background Checks: The position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license andmaintainThe Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete SafeFromHarmand CPR/First Aid trainingwithin the first30 daysof employment.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certificationrequired, or within the first year90 daysemployment.

Skills/Abilities:

• Able to speak, write, and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.

• Able to lift or move up to 50 pounds, perform rescues, and remain on your feet for extended periods
