Job description

Armed School Security

Applicants must possess a current and valid Concealed Pistol License, or be legally authorized to carry a weapon under LEOSA. Law enforcement experience or applicable military experience is strongly preferred.

DK Security is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time Armed School Security Officer assignment in Jackson County. This is a safety-sensitive armed security position in a school environment, and applicants must be prepared to perform professional safety and security duties while maintaining sound judgment, restraint, and strong customer service at all times.

This is an hourly employee position paid biweekly. The current pay rate for the school assignment is $27.23 per hour. This rate is established by DK Security’s contractual arrangement with the client and cannot be negotiated with applicants. Pay rates at other DK Security locations may vary based on the applicable client contract.

The school assignment operates during the school year and pauses during summer break. During periods when the school assignment is paused, work at other DK Security locations may remain available. Employees who want additional hours outside of the school assignment are responsible for maintaining availability for other work opportunities. Employees who do not wish to work during a school break may request a personal leave of absence, subject to management approval.

This position is at-will employment. DK Security will fill this position through W-2 employment only and will not hire any person as an independent contractor for this opening.

The Armed School Security Officer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting foot and vehicle patrols.
  • Monitoring assigned posts and access points.
  • Identifying and reporting suspicious activity.
  • Supporting safety planning and coordination with school staff.
  • Helping maintain a safe environment for students, staff, visitors, vendors, and the client.
  • Responding professionally and appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and safety concerns.
  • Maintaining a visible, alert, and professional security presence on site.

Because this position is performed in a school setting and may involve contact with school-aged children, applicants must successfully complete all required background screening and drug testing at the time of hire and remain subject to random drug testing thereafter.

Minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Must possess a current and valid CPL or be authorized to carry under LEOSA.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, patrol, and move quickly when responding to emergencies.
  • Must be certified in CPR or willing to become certified.
  • Must be able to perform CPR and other emergency response duties as required.
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate tools, radios, and other security equipment.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment, emotional control, and the ability to make appropriate decisions under pressure.
  • Must be able to safely, responsibly, and professionally carry and use a firearm in accordance with law, client expectations, and DK Security policy.
  • Must maintain a clean and professional appearance in accordance with DK Security company policy.
  • Must act professionally, communicate respectfully, and remain kind, courteous, and service-oriented in all interactions.
  • Must provide excellent customer service to students, staff, visitors, vendors, clients, and members of the public.

This position requires maturity, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to serve in a school environment with care, patience, and confidence. DK Security is seeking applicants who understand the seriousness of armed school security work and who are committed to protecting people through preparation, professionalism, and sound judgment.
