Job description

Title: Sacristan, Part-time

Reports to: Pastor/Administrator

Location:Church of the Resurrection |Fort Myers, FL

Overview

Church of the Resurrection is seeking a part-time Parish Sacristan to assist and support the communal prayer of those coming to worship.The Sacristan role is highly visible and provides a welcoming presence in and around the church while overseeing the total operation of the sacristies and coordination of volunteer sacristans within the Church.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation and set up for all liturgical services celebrated in the Church, Chapel, or Parish Hall both weekdays and weekends, either directly or through use of scheduled volunteers.
  • Prepare the Church and the sanctuary for Liturgy or Sacraments including the opening and closing of the facilities.
  • Set up objects, documents, and vessels; return to their proper place after liturgy. All materials and elements of the Altar are to be respected
  • Make sure gift-bearers are identified prior to each weekend Mass and support the Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, and Servers, as needed.
  • Welcome celebrants and visiting Priests; participate in rites as requested
  • Maintain the inventory of altar breads, wine, candles, charcoal, incense, and all other items used regularly in the celebration of the liturgy
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Sacristy and Altar areas; report needed repairs as necessary
  • Assist in the seasonal decorating of the Church along with the team of volunteers
  • Maintain a regularly scheduled walk-through of the Church and appropriately address any cleanliness, safety, or security issues that may arise on the property
  • Maintain confidentiality on all parish matters including sensitive parish information
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Pastor and other Parish staff and ministries on an on-going basis regarding scheduling and promotion of liturgical events
  • Identify, encourage, and train volunteers, as needed, for a vibrant sacristan ministry within the parish.
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic with basic knowledge and understanding of the structure of Liturgical rites (Mass, Communion, Weddings, Baptism, Funerals, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills and proficiency with information technology
  • High degree of flexibility in order to achieve objectives and meet demands
  • Effective listener, responsive and supportive towards parishioners, volunteers, and staff
  • Exhibits good judgment, is highly motivated and self-directed
