What is a sabbatical?

A sabbatical job refers to a temporary role or position that someone takes while on a career break or extended leave from their primary job. This could be freelance work, consulting, volunteering, or short-term contracts that align with personal or professional growth during the break. Some companies offer formal sabbatical programs where employees take time off to recharge, learn new skills, or pursue passion projects. A sabbatical job can help maintain income, gain new experiences, or transition into a different career path.

How can I effectively plan for a sabbatical to ensure a smooth transition back to my role?

Planning for a sabbatical involves clear communication with your employer, ensuring your responsibilities are covered, and setting expectations for your absence and return. It's helpful to document ongoing projects, delegate tasks, and provide handover notes to your colleagues or temporary replacements. Before your leave, discuss with your manager about any re-onboarding or catch-up processes upon your return, and stay informed about company updates to ease your transition back into the workplace.
