What does a SaaS intern in finance do?

A SaaS Intern in Finance typically assists with financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting within a Software as a Service (SaaS) company. This role involves working with financial data, helping to forecast revenue, tracking key metrics like Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), and supporting the finance team with various tasks. Interns may also help prepare presentations for stakeholders and learn about SaaS-specific financial models. The experience provides valuable exposure to both finance and the technology industry, giving interns an understanding of how SaaS businesses operate financially.

What types of projects and tasks can a SaaS intern in finance expect to work on during their internship?

As a SaaS Intern in Finance, you can expect to assist with financial reporting, support monthly and quarterly close processes, and help analyze SaaS-specific metrics such as Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) and customer churn. You'll often collaborate with accounting, operations, and product teams to gather data and prepare dashboards for management. This hands-on experience with SaaS business models, combined with exposure to cross-functional teams, provides a solid foundation for understanding both finance and technology-driven companies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SaaS intern in finance, and why are they important?

To thrive as a SaaS Intern in Finance, you need a solid understanding of financial principles, analytical skills, and familiarity with accounting or finance coursework. Proficiency in Excel, financial modeling tools, and experience with SaaS metrics or ERP systems like NetSuite are commonly expected. Attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and strong communication skills help interns stand out in collaborative, fast-paced environments. These competencies enable accurate financial analysis and effective support of business decisions in technology-driven companies.

About the Role

As our company scales, our financial infrastructure and strategic planning must keep pace. We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented Finance Intern to join our team for Summer 2026. In this role, you won't just be crunching numbers in a silo-you will be an active contributor to our financial operations, helping ensure our leadership team has the insights and data they need to drive the business forward.

This internship offers a deep dive into modern corporate finance. You'll gain hands-on experience in financial planning, data automation, and SaaS metrics while working directly with cutting-edge finance technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting & Presentations: Assist in preparing management presentations, monthly financial reviews, and reports for senior leadership.

  • Billing & Revenue Operations: Support usage-based billing analysis and automation initiatives. This includes exploring complex billing data, identifying discrepancies, and helping develop scalable tools to improve accuracy and operational efficiency.

  • System & Data Management: Engage with FP&A and Business Intelligence (BI) software for report creation, financial analysis, and data maintenance to ensure absolute reliability in our reporting.

  • Finance Transformation: Support process modernization initiatives, including exploring and implementing AI-enabled tools and automated finance workflows.

What You'll Learn
  • How a high-growth SaaS company manages financial planning, analysis (FP&A), and corporate reporting.

  • Practical, hands-on exposure to modern ERP and financial tech stacks (e.g., NetSuite, Ramp, Drivetrain).

  • How to partner and communicate collaboratively with finance, accounting, and cross-functional business units.

  • Core finance and accounting concepts applied directly to a fast-paced, real-world technology environment.

QualificationsRequired
  • Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed (2026) a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration (MBA), or a related quantitative field. (Recent graduates may be considered on an hourly/contract basis).

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a high level of attention to detail.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets (advanced formulas, data modeling).

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly.

  • Adaptability: Ability to manage competing priorities, take initiative, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred
  • Prior internship or relevant coursework in corporate finance, accounting, or data analytics.

  • Familiarity with modern ERP or financial planning systems.

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, Looker).

  • A strong interest in the enterprise software / SaaS industry.

Program Details
  • Duration: Approximately 10-12 weeks (flexible based on candidate availability and business needs).

  • Location: Hybrid - Mountain View, CA (exact weekly schedule to be confirmed).

  • Hours: Approx 30 hours/week.

  • Compensation: This is a paid internship. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and market rates.

Must be able to come to Mountain View HQ 3 times per week.
