What is a Rust Crypto developer?

A Rust Crypto developer is a software engineer who specializes in building cryptographic software using the Rust programming language. They focus on developing secure, efficient, and reliable cryptographic libraries, tools, or protocols. Rust's strong memory safety guarantees and performance make it a popular choice for cryptography, and developers working in this field must have a strong understanding of both cryptographic principles and the unique features of Rust. Their work is critical in ensuring data security for a variety of applications, from blockchain to secure communications.

How does a Rust Crypto developer typically collaborate with security and blockchain teams in a project?

As a Rust Crypto developer, you’ll often work closely with both security experts and blockchain engineers to ensure cryptographic protocols are implemented securely and efficiently. Collaboration usually involves regular code reviews, joint threat modeling sessions, and sharing updates on algorithm changes or vulnerabilities. Effective communication is key, as your work directly impacts the safety and reliability of blockchain-based applications. Expect to participate in cross-functional meetings to align on best practices, design decisions, and integration efforts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Rust Crypto engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rust Crypto Engineer, you need strong proficiency in Rust programming, a solid foundation in cryptography concepts, and experience with secure software development. Familiarity with cryptographic libraries (like RustCrypto), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are often valuable. Meticulous attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration skills help ensure robust, secure code and successful teamwork. These skills are critical for developing reliable cryptographic solutions that protect sensitive data and maintain system integrity.

What is the difference between Rust Crypto vs Blockchain Developer?

Job description

About Figure Figure (NASDAQ: FIGR) is transforming capital markets through blockchain. We’re proving that blockchain isn’t just theory - it’s powering real products used by hundreds of thousands of consumers and institutions. By combining blockchain’s transparency and efficiency with AI-driven automation, we’ve reimagined how loans are originated, funded, and traded in secondary markets. From faster processing times to lower costs and reduced bias, our technology is helping borrowers, investors, and financial institutions achieve better outcomes. Together with our 170+ partners, we’ve originated over $22 billion in home equity loans (HELOCs) on our blockchain-native platform, making Figure the largest non-bank provider of home equity financing in the U.S. Figure’s ecosystem also includes YLDS, an SEC-registered yield-bearing stablecoin that operates as a tokenized money market fund, and several other products and platforms that are reshaping consumer finance and capital markets. We’re proud to be recognized as one of Forbes’ Most Innovative Fintech Startups in 2025 and Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in Finance and Personal Finance.

About the Role Figure is seeking a Director, Crypto Protocols, to spearhead the rollout of PRIME. As the foundational protocol for Hastra.io, PRIME is a premier RWA DeFi token, and this position is central to Figure's mission to integrate institutional assets with crypto-native frameworks. In this capacity, you will drive the technical strategy and architectural execution for Hastra's burgeoning DeFi projects across Ethereum, Solana, and subsequent networks. Designed for a team leader who excels in the codebase, the role is approximately 90% engineering and 10% administration, prioritizing active development over detached oversight. Collaborating with security, infrastructure, and protocol partners, you will build resilient, production-ready systems. We seek a computer science expert dedicated to building meaningful financial technology. You should value clear communication, lean, non-bureaucratic processes, and the ability to deliver high-quality work on tight, predictable schedules.

Note: The original description contained strong emphasis for readability. This version preserves content without introducing new formatting beyond allowed tags.

What You’ll Do

Lead the architecture and delivery of PRIME through the Hastra protocol. Design and build core protocol services across RWA DeFi, tokenization, settlement, and cross-chain infrastructure. Own technical direction for new Hastra DeFi projects, from early design through production launch. Develop production systems using Golang, Rust, Solidity, and related blockchain infrastructure. Expand Hastra’s protocol footprint across Solana, Ethereum, and additional native chain ecosystems. Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and protocol partners to define requirements, timelines, and delivery plans. Communicate clearly with leadership and stakeholders, including practical timeline estimates and tradeoff analysis. Operate protocol infrastructure with strong monitoring, observability, and incident readiness using tools such as Datadog, Hypernative, and other DeFi monitoring platforms. Review architecture, code, vendor integrations, and protocol design decisions for scalability, security, and maintainability. Mentor engineers while remaining deeply hands-on in the codebase.

What We Look For

At least 8 years of software engineering background, focusing on the development of production-ready backend, blockchain, or distributed architectures. Deep technical proficiency in Rust, Golang, and/or Solidity. Direct experience with Ethereum and Solana native environments; familiarity with other blockchain ecosystems is advantageous. Proven track record in DeFi, smart contracts, token protocols, cross-chain infrastructure, or institutional-grade crypto trading and settlement systems. Skilled at managing production environments with a focus on observability, alerting, monitoring, and disciplined incident response. Capacity to spearhead architectural decisions while maintaining a daily commitment to writing high-quality code. Excellent communication abilities, including effectively coordinating with vendors, evaluating technical trade-offs, and providing realistic timeline estimates. A high-ownership, low-ego approach to work with a strong drive to ship products. A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline like Computer Science is preferred, though we value significant practical experience over formal credentials.
