Wages for new employees are on a tiered scale based on the candidate’s skills and experience, as approved by management at the time of hire. New employees will begin at 90% of the assigned rate/tier for the first six months.

Under close supervision, the Electronic Technician performs electrical and electronic repair work required to maintain RTA vehicles and equipment.

  • Test electrical and electronic circuits using voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, and other diagnostic equipment 
  •  Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment 
  •  Install, remove, and replace electrical and electronic components on vehicles and facilities 
  • Maintain and repair CAD/AVL systems and onboard camera equipment 
  • Repair and maintain fare collection systems (electronic and mechanical components) 
  • Perform maintenance and repair of radio communication systems and related technology. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. 
  • Must have completed vocational training in electrical/electronic maintenance. 
  • Three (3) or four (4) years’ experience reading electrical diagrams, applying the diagrams in diagnosing, repairing, and troubleshooting direct current systems, preferably used in transit vehicles and equipment, such as alternators, generators, relays, circuit breakers, switches, circuit board repair, small electronic repair, and computer-based diagnostics. 


LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

       Ability to drive and possess a Valid Louisiana Driver’s license


ESSENTIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or working at a workbench or computer 
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions 
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for the duration of a full shift, including on uneven surfaces 
  • Frequent stooping, bending, climbing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and walking 
  • Ability to work in multiple physical positions, including reaching and working at or above shoulder level 
  • Ability to lift and carry 10–60 pounds (minimum lifting requirement: 60 pounds) 
  • Ability to work at heights (platforms, man-lifts) and in confined spaces (pits, under equipment) 
  • Ability to wear required PPE and company-approved uniform 
  • Ability to work assigned shifts, including non-standard hours
