Classification: Part-time, Non-Exempt, Temporary

We do this through Latino community-driven programs, advocacy, and service. CANDIDATE PROFILE

Latino Network seeks a bilingual mission-driven professional with bi-cultural familiarity with proven nonprofit and community experience to lead a full range of activities for a growing organization. As part of a dedicated team working toward a shared vision, the SUN Extended Day Instructor is charged with supporting the SUN Community School Site Manager. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position with the capacity to impact the education and wellbeing of hundreds of young Latino children and their families each year. If you are resourceful, able to build strong relationships, and passionate about working for educational equity, then the Latino Network is the place for you.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Extended Day Instructor will work with the SUN Site Manager and Extended Day Coordinator to provide opportunities for academic and enrichment after-school classes.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach academic and enrichment classes
  • Track and ensure academic and development of student groups of 10-15 children, ages 6-14
  • Act as a positive role-model for students
  • Participate and implement support program safety to ensure students are in a safe environment
Requirements:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience planning and providing academic and recreational activities to students in after-school environments.
  • Experience working with school-aged children from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Specific area of expertise that you are passionate about and eager to share with students, such as (but not limited to): art, cooking/nutrition, dance, creative writing, environmental science, foreign language, geography, LEGO Robotics, team sports, ultimate Frisbee, etc.
  • Desire and ability to work with children to ensure an enriching, positive, and safe classroom setting.
  • Experience developing and effectively executing academic and recreational lesson plans to a diverse student population.
  • Ability to effectively work within a strength-based, integrated youth support service delivery system.
  • Ability to document work continually and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess strong organizational and time-management skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks.
  • Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures.
  • Willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Latino Network.

ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly work in the school, and in the community as needed, including client homes, schools, churches, parks, community centers, etc
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required, and work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods
  • Reliable car, driver’s license, and automobile liability insurance; must be eligible to be an insured driver under Latino Network’s Commercial Auto Liability
  • May require heavy lifting and walking during events and outreach activities
  • Undergoing criminal and passing background check including fingerprinting is required
