Job description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior RPG Developer with a strong background in the Manufacturing and Retail domains. This role requires a technical expert who can bridge the gap between complex legacy systems and modern integration methods, such as RESTful web services and Java/SAP connectivity.

Key Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent hands-on experience will be considered).
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience with RPG on IBM i-Series (AS/400) within Retail and Manufacturing environments.
  • Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of Retail and Distribution cycles, including Order Processing, Inventory Control, Warehouse Management, and Logistics.

Technical Requirements

  • Core Programming: Mastery of RPG III, RPG IV, ILE, CL/400, CLLE, and Free Format RPG.
  • Database & SQL: Expert-level SQLRPGLE, DB2/400, Stored Procedures, and SQL optimization.
  • Development Tools: Proficiency in IBM Rational Developer for i (RDi), PDM, SEU, SDA, and DBU.
  • Integration: Proven experience executing Web Services, Java/XML procedures, and RESTful services from the AS/400. Familiarity with PCML and MQ Series.
  • Systems Management: Experience with Batch Jobs, Journaling, Commitment Control, and Change Management tools (e.g., Turnover or Implementer).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Full SDLC Ownership: Handle system analysis, design, technical specification, development, debugging, and rigorous unit testing (UTC/UTR).
  • Modernization & Integration: Integrate AS/400 systems with Java front-ends and SAP environments via host publication and web service calls.
  • Business Analysis: Act as a liaison with stakeholders to translate business needs into functional requirement documentation.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), scorecards, and complex reports using traditional RDBMS functionality and query optimization.
  • Maintenance: Provide high-level support for data migration, change management, and help desk ticket resolution.
