Summary: The objectives of the Reservationist/Ticket Agent position are providing outstanding customer service to guests by asking questions, listening to requests, and determining their needs to assist them in making their purchase decision. Ensure guests feel welcome and valued at all times.
Essential Functions
Customer Service
• Greet and acknowledge guests
• Maintain a welcoming environment
• Be proactive in offering help to guests
• Exert patience with guests
• Listening and speaking skills
• Maintain updated knowledge of the train and surrounding geographical area
• Proper phone etiquette
Administrative/Financial
• Accountable for accurate financial transactions and reconciliations
• Beginning and end of day cash drawers, counting money, balance cash drawers, bank deposits, and necessary paperwork
• Accurately compute sales charges, process cash and credit transactions, and refunds (when applicable)
• Maintain accurate and timely records
Ticket Sales
• Maintain understanding and updated knowledge of rates, policies, and special passes
• Use suggestive selling skills
• Be professional, friendly, and courteous
Work Area Maintenance
• Responsible for the overall appearance of the reservations workspace and the ticket office
• Other duties as assigned by management
Education/Minimum Requirements
• High school diploma
• Prior experience in a reservations/secretary position desired but not required
Skills/Aptitudes
• Effective and strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Presentation and public speaking skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Solid knowledge and experience with computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and the Internet
Working Conditions/Essential Job Functions
• Fast-paced environment that is subject to numerous priorities or schedule changes, in addition to short notice activity including long days, weekends, and holidays
• Occasional bending, lifting, and carrying of boxes/office equipment
• Probable long periods of standing or sitting
• Light cleaning/organization of office area
