Job description
The University of Virginia Rowing Program seeks a driven and enthusiastic individual to support the coaching staff in the development of student-athletes and the daily operation of the rowing program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coaching and Athlete Development
- Operate a coaching launch during on-the-water practices.
- Observe student-athletes and crews from the launch and provide timely, constructive technical feedback.
- Identify and communicate technical corrections related to rowing mechanics, boat movement, rhythm, timing, and crew synchronization.
- Promote a positive, demanding, and supportive training environment consistent with the values of the University and rowing program.
- Support student-athlete safety during practices and other rowing activities.
Program and Administrative Support
- Assist with preparation for daily practices and training sessions.
- Support equipment preparation, organization, and logistics.
- Assist with rowing equipment and coaching launch operations as assigned.
- Organize and maintain practice video and other performance materials.
- Assist with data entry, training records, and other program documentation.
- Assist the full-time coaching staff with other program-related duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong technical knowledge of rowing and collegiate rowing training practices.
- Ability to effectively observe, analyze, and communicate rowing technique.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a full-time coaching staff.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work a variable schedule, including early mornings and weekends.

Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Some experience in coaching this particular sport program at the collegiate and/or professional level.
Licensure: Relevant licensure or certification my be required dependent on position.
Physical demands
Work is performed in the process of coaching student-athletes within a sports program.
