Routesetters use climbing holds and volumes to craft engaging, safe, and progressive challenges for climbers of all skill levels. What does a typical day look like for a Routesetter in a climbing gym?

This includes selecting and installing holds, testing the routes for safety and appropriate difficulty, and making adjustments as needed based on feedback from climbers or supervisors. Routesetters may also participate in cleaning and maintaining climbing walls, inventorying holds, and collaborating with gym staff to ensure a diverse and engaging set of routes are available for all skill levels. The role is physically demanding and requires careful attention to detail, but it is also highly creative and collaborative, often offering opportunities to design routes for competitions or special events.
