Job description

Basic Function
HF Sinclair Midstream is seeking a Rotating Equipment Engineer. This position conducts engineering assignments for the Reliability Department and functions as a technical specialist, initiating and developing moderately complex engineering concepts. This position is open to the locations of Artesia, NM, Dallas, TX, Tulsa, OK, Salt Lake City, UT, Cheyenne, WY, or Casper, WY.ย 
Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)ย 

  • Develop, maintain, and interpret pipeline hydraulics, system curves, and pump curves to optimally define the proper operating region
  • Define and manage key performance indicators (KPI) to measure the effectiveness of the Rotating Equipment Reliability Program
  • Uses common engineering concepts to perform engineering evaluations, FEED studies for new projects, and assignments for the technical services department
  • Estimates the cost and feasibility of reliability projects, supervises contractors and field activities as needed.
  • Knowledgeable on industry specifications regarding design and construction of rotating equipment and associated infrastructure considering appropriate materials of construction and corrosion controls.
  • Use common engineering process to evaluate, recommend, improve our mechanical systems into a reliability program development including performance measurements like efficiency, vibration, temperature and preventive maintenance intervals.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in operations procedures and maintenance procedures as needed.
  • Develop and/or review technical specifications, contract documents and cost estimates for rotating equipment and associated infrastructure (i.e. pumps, starters, transformers, VFDs, MCC)
  • Upgrade, design, configure, maintain and monitor Pipeline/Terminal equipment according to applicable specs. Review proposals of vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing processing equipment
  • Develop small capital project scopes, budgets and AFE's.
  • Review temporary piping clamps to ensure adequate design to maintain mechanical integrity
  • Review large capital projects design and construction, ensuring specifications and API codes are adhered to.
  • Perform risk evaluations of existing equipment, recommend upgrades or inspection plans as appropriate.
  • Evaluates inspection findings and when needed facilitates and/or performs Fitness For Service evaluations for fixed equipment
  • Track and report key performance indicators for reliability department

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from timeย to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

Five to ten years' progressive experience in a pipeline, terminals, refinery or similar chemical processing facility.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Registration as a Professional Engineer preferred.

Education Level
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or work history in mechanical reliability commiserate with an engineering degree is required.
Required Skills

Intermediate knowledge of commonly used Pipeline and Terminal engineering mechanical specifications and related ASME/API codes.ย  Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential.ย  Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.ย  Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the Organization.ย  Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics.ย  Knowledge of various process hazard analysis and root cause analysis methodologies is required.ย  Ability to coordinate all phases of a project from cradle to grave. ISO 18436-2 CAT II certification, or willingness to acquire the certification is required.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Working knowledge of Microsoft products and experience with engineering software is preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
May be responsible for the supervision of contractors.
Work Conditions
Office and plant based with up to 25% travel required.ย  Subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors.

Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences,ย  required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential (inability to maintain standard insurance rates is grounds for dismissal), valid State driver's license and proof of insurance required.ย Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination.ย  Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
