Job Description:
The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Lake Wauburg Challenge Course Facilitators to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing. Lake Wauburg Challenge Course Facilitators serve RecSports participants by leading experiential teambuilding activities for groups that are used to promote, enhance, and support the development of healthy group relationships. Facilitators lead groups through in-person team-building programs (on and off-site), and low and high ropes courses at Lake Wauburg South Shore.
Successful candidates will begin work at the start of Fall 2026.

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants and guests
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador
  • Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities
  • Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures
  • All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Student Staff Code of Conduct process that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors

RecSports Fall Kick-Off 2026: Tuesday, August 18
  • Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our RecSports team. All RecSports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.
  • Fall Kick-Off is scheduled for August 18, 2026. Please mark your calendars as this is mandatory for all-staff! In addition, please hold your calendars for August 12-18, 2026 for mandatory unit-specific trainings

Lake Wauburg Team Member Responsibilities
Lake Wauburg Challenge Course Facilitators serve RecSports participants by leading experiential teambuilding activities for groups that are used to promote, enhance, and support the development of healthy group relationships. Facilitators lead groups through in-person team-building programs (on and off-site), and low and high ropes courses at Lake Wauburg South Shore.
Position Duties
  • Provide high-quality customer service.
  • Facilitate activities to promote and enhance individual and group growth, development, and wellness.
  • Must participate and demonstrate proficient skills in Low, , and High Course training.
  • Provide pre-course safety briefings.
  • Responsible for consistent supervision of challenge course participants throughout entire course
  • Responsible for managing risk and promoting well-being of participants, teammates, and self.
  • Support Lake Wauburg special events and facility reservations
  • Assist with set up, take down, opening, closing, cleaning, and other duties as directed.
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
  • Assist users regularly with safe equipment use.
  • Administer First Aid/CPR/AED in an emergency.
  • Prevent injuries by eliminating hazardous situations and behaviors.
  • Enforce rules, regulations and policies.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment for unsafe conditions, remedy the condition, and or notify Supervisors.
  • Participate in departmental and unit training.
  • Assist supervisors and professional staff with additional duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:
$14.65 per hour
Required Qualifications:
Requirements/Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Will be required to successfully complete a background check.
  • Comfortable working at height
  • Ability to work harmoniously with the staff, guests and the public.
  • Ability to work regular courses, including over weekdays and weekends

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus
and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and
must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students
are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week and
additional hours with an approved Hours Extension Form.
*Federal Work Study students are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience providing exceptional customer service.
  • Previous group facilitation experience
  • Previous experience with ropes courses, challenge courses, and climbing structures.
  • Experience designing and creating ropes/challenge program experiences.
