Job description

Position Summary:
The Metal Development Specialist is responsible for the continued advancement and quality control of our stone-coated metal roofing operations. This role focuses on the hands-on development and training of Install Managers (IMs), Project Coordinators (PCs), and subcontracted Installation Partners (IPs), to ensure the highest standards in material ordering, field execution, and inventory management are consistently upheld.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Train IMs, PCs, and IPs on proper ordering of metal materials using Hover measurements and the company's MLG (Metal Logistics Guide) ordering tool.
  • Facilitate in-office and on-site training for IMs, PCs, and IPs to ensure consistent install quality and understanding of system details.
  • Lead one week of virtual team meetings per month, accessible company-wide, to support metal ordering, provide live troubleshooting, develop training videos in the closest office to home, and coach on best practices.

Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure all trainees and field crews adhere to company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Model and teach safe material handling and jobsite practices for metal roofing systems.
  • Prior to any training begins go over jobsite fall protection and safety hazard plan.

Mentoring & Supervision:
  • Support Install Managers in developing leadership skills to better supervise metal crews and coordinate with project teams.
  • Offer ongoing mentorship to Regionals IMs, IMs, and PCs to ensure accurate and efficient material ordering and inventory use.

Technical Expertise:
  • Master all company metal profiles and obtain certifications for each profile installed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret Hover drawings for proper metal material take-offs and applications.
  • Stay current on new metal roofing verticals and complete certifications as required.

Collaboration & Communication:
  • Act as a bridge between Regional IMs, IMs, PCs, and the Inventory and Purchasing teams.
  • Assist with company-wide service cases involving metal roofing, collaborating with install partners and field teams (IMs & PCs) to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Communicate field observations and opportunities for improvement to the Director of Roofing Installation Excellence and leadership as needed.

Additional Duties:
  • Promote warehouse efficiency by training IMs and PCs to utilize existing inventory before placing new material orders.
  • When visiting warehouses, do audits on current inventory counts by utilizing that region's count files.
  • Work with Regional IMs to help organize and perform inventory counts in warehouses.
  • Maintain company vehicles in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Maintain list and help develop standardized company vehicle build-outs, i.e., tools, outfitting, and equipment.
  • Learn and become proficient in Salesforce, Company Cam, Hover, and other related company systems and tools.

Additional Requirements:
  • Proven ability to read and interpret Hover drawings and calculate accurate material needs.
  • Strong understanding of metal roofing systems and installation practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable leading virtual meetings and remote troubleshooting.
  • Certifications in all company-installed metal profiles, or willing to acquire.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Salesforce, Company Cam, Hover, and proprietary ordering systems.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments and physically on roofs for 95% of field hands-on training, 5% will be on ground training utilizing cutting tools and benders, 100% of on-site training will require presence from start to completion and signed off on the company's completion documentation with the IP and the customer's signature.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
