What is the position?
As a Roofing Technician at MacDermott Roofing, you'd perform repairs or replacements on commercial buildings for primarily low slope roofs. Our service area is primarily 1 hour from our Livonia office location. You'd be working with hand tools, various roofing materials, climbing ladders and following safety protocols. You'd be initially placed in either our service/repair department or be part of our installation team. Cross training between departments may become available from time to time. You would need reliable transportation that allows you to show up consistently for our team and customers. Training is primarily on the job, combined with in-house mini trainings during weather days. MacDermott works year-round as much as conditions will allow us to safely operate. This is not a temporary position or part time position. The ideal candidate in this role would want to understand our protocols, roofing specs, and become a critical person to our team to help drive the company vision.
Typical Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Lifting and carrying over 50lbs.
  • Climbing ladders
  • Using hand tools
  • Communicating/collaborating with co-workers
  • Make repairs to commercial and industrial flat roofs (Various materials TPO, EPDM, PVC, etc.) (rarely commercial shingle)
  • Consistently learning/developing your skills
  • Carry out duties as instructed by supervisory staff
  • Helping the team maintain our shop area
  • Obtain safety training and maintain safety protocol and standards at all times

Qualifications:
  • Must be 18+ years old
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
  • Ability to use hand tools
  • Punctual / Reliable
  • Quick Learner
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to lift and carry over 50lbs.
  • Ability to use a ladder
  • OSHA 10 certification within the last 5 years; if not it will be required within the first 60 days of employment (course paid for by employer).
  • OSHA Fall Protection training within the last 5 years; if not it will be required within the first 60 days of employment (course paid for by employer).
