Job description

As a Roll-Off Driver, you will deliver, exchange, and haul open-top and compactor containers for commercial, industrial, and construction and demolition customers across your service area. We are looking for a safety-minded, reliable driver who takes pride in accurate documentation, professional customer interactions, and representing Ecowaste Solutions well in the community, whether you bring years of roll-off experience or are ready to build that expertise with us.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a roll-off truck to deliver, pick up, exchange, and reposition containers at customer sites, construction sites, and designated disposal and transfer facilities
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip DOT vehicle inspections (Fleet Walk / Safety Lanes) and document findings accurately each shift
  • Safely hook, unhook, and secure containers using cables, hoists, chains, tarps, and locking mechanisms per site and load requirements
  • Follow assigned routes and adjust for same-day service requests, exchanges, and emergency pulls as directed by dispatch or supervisor
  • Inspect containers and load contents for prohibited materials, overweight loads, and contamination, and report exceptions to the supervisor
  • Maintain accurate delivery, pickup, and disposal records using onboard technology (Samsara) and/or paper tickets as required
  • Operate within all DOT Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and company safety policies
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and properly functioning vehicle, and report mechanical issues or damage promptly
  • Communicate professionally with customers, site contacts, and dispatch, representing the company positively in the community
  • Participate in crew-out huddles, safety meetings, and training sessions as scheduled
  • Maintain compliance with all FMCSA regulations, including drug and alcohol testing program requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Regional Operations Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), as designated by site fleet needs
  • Clean MVR consistent with company and DOT standards, with no disqualifying violations within the lookback period defined by policy
  • Current DOT medical certification (Fitness-for-Duty), with the ability to maintain certification throughout employment
  • Ability to pass pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol screening per FMCSA/DOT requirements
  • 1-2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience is preferred; roll-off or waste industry experience is a plus, and candidates newer to the industry are welcome to apply, as training on hydraulic hoist/cable roll-off equipment is provided
  • Experience operating in construction, industrial, or municipal solid waste settings is a plus
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, HOS rules, and pre/post-trip inspection standards
  • Ability to read maps and routes and navigate service areas efficiently; familiarity with AMCS or similar routing software is a plus
  • Strong situational awareness for backing, spotting, and maneuvering in tight commercial and residential areas
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to identify vehicle issues before they become breakdowns
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality, with the ability to meet a 3:00 AM shift start
  • Professional, customer-focused demeanor, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Frequent entering and exiting the cab, climbing on/off equipment, and working at heights on container frames
  • Ability to lift, pull, and manipulate tarps, chains, and cables up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Prolonged periods of sitting while driving, combined with frequent physical activity during container exchanges
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, road traffic, dust, odors, and varying temperatures year-round
  • Ability to work early morning hours, occasional weekends, and extended hours as business needs require
