Rohrer Bus, based in Duncannon, PA, has delivered school and commercial passenger transportation solutions for over a century. The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and professional transportation of students to and from school.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safe Operation
  • Transport students courteously in accordance with all traffic laws, DOT regulations, and local policies.
  • Follow all railroad crossing, school zone, and designated stop protocols.
  • Never fuel the vehicle while students or passengers are on board.

Daily Pre-Trip Inspection
  • Engine: oil, coolant, belts, leaks. Exterior: tires, body damage, lens caps.
  • Emergency equipment: fire extinguisher, First Aid/Body Kits, three reflectors.
  • Interior: clean windows, clear driver area, functioning gauges and lights.
  • Communication: 2-way radio or phone charged and operational.
  • Final check: mirrors, seat belt, brakes; low-speed operational inspection on departure.

Vehicle Maintenance & Records
  • Complete daily maintenance reports; maintain fuel and mileage logs.
  • Keep the approved route loading zone list in the vehicle; clean bus interior regularly.
  • Report all maintenance needs and repairs to a supervisor promptly.

Student Management
  • Promote safe, orderly conduct on the bus; report behavioral incidents in writing per district policy.
  • Attend all required safety meetings; arrive on time for all routes and field trips.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid CDL - Class A or B with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements; no Air Brake restriction.
  • DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate; knowledge of state and local traffic laws.

Core Competencies
  • Courteous, dependable, and professional with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to read materials/screens and communicate clearly in person and by phone.
  • Comfortable using fleet and workforce technology systems such as Samsara (GPS/vehicle tracking) and Dayforce (scheduling/HR).
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate a school bus and wheelchair-accessible vehicles.

WORK REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be 21+ years of age with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Primarily regional travel. Must have stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
  • Physical: lift up to 50 lbs; bend, twist, reach; sit for extended periods (2" clearance at steering wheel); climb stairs and emergency exits; enter/exit vehicles 13-66" off the ground.
  • Must withstand varying indoor/outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures.
