Job description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our team in a fast-paced Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Look-Alike setting. This role is essential in supporting patient care through accurate specimen collection, processing, and coordination with laboratory services. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with diverse patient populations, and committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
    • Perform venipuncture and capillary collections on patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
    • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate labeling of all specimens
    • Prepare and process specimens, including proper handling, centrifugation (spinning), aliquoting, and packaging for transport
    • Maintain knowledge of specimen requirements (e.g., tube types, order of draw, handling conditions)
    • Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
    • Follow all infection control, OSHA, and safety protocols
    • Monitor and maintain adequate inventory of phlebotomy and lab supplies
    • Properly store specimens and coordinate pickup or delivery to external laboratories as needed
    • Assist with point-of-care testing as applicable
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab and draw areas
    • Provide excellent patient care by explaining procedures and addressing concerns with professionalism and empathy
    • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to support efficient patient flow
    • Keep accurate records on specimens and tests
    • Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working
    • Acting as a liaison between MCHC and lab processing company
    • Maintain compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations

POSITION DETAILS
Schedule:
  • Monday though Friday availability, 9 am - 5 pm
  • Saturdays also available (6 hour shift), 9 am - 3 pm

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Phlebotomist Certification
  • Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician
  • Experience with effective puncture techniques
  • Understanding of proper patient identification methods
  • Knowledge of legal requirements about drawing blood, handling samples and use of relevant medical equipment and material
  • Ability to use computers to enter information
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to connect with various types of patients (such as children, elderly, pregnant women) and make them feel comfortable
  • Patience and presence of mind
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures

Certification:
  • Phlebotomist (Required)

Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Karen, Rohingya, Burmese etc. is a plus
  • Proficiency in EPIC EMR
  • Familiarity with Labcorp is a plus

Preferred Experience:
  • Phlebotomy: 2 years (Preferred)
  • EMR systems: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Medical terminology: 2 years (Preferred)
