Qualifications:
Valid Professional Educator License
Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS 1) Endorsement
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Essential Competencies:
Exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills 
Highly collaborative and exemplary interpersonal skills 
Strong technology skills
Performance Responsibilities: 
Assess student progress towards targets and standards, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
Communicate clearly and accurately with students and parents to provide constructive feedback.
Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
Deliver instruction to engage all students, adjusting lessons based on student progress to enhance academic and interpersonal skills.
Design instructional materials that align with individual learning plans and state and district standards.
Administer assessments to evaluate student competency and plan for instructional groups.
Direct and support student teachers, instructional assistants, and volunteers to provide an effective classroom program.
Maintain accurate and timely records to monitor student progress.
Manage student behavior, classroom procedures, and physical space to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
Reflect on teaching strategies and lesson effectiveness to improve student achievement.
Respond to emergencies and report incidents to ensure student safety and compliance with policies.
Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations, creating a conducive learning environment.

Special Education Specific:
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA, Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) regulations, and district procedures.
Design and deliver specialized instruction aligned to students' IEP goals in academic, functional, social-emotional, communication, and behavioral domains.
Differentiate curriculum and modify grade-level standards to meet the individual learning needs of students with disabilities.
Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and maintain detailed documentation of student performance toward IEP goals and objectives.
Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, including preparation of required documentation, data reports, and parent communication.
Collaborate with related service providers (speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, psychologists) to ensure coordinated service delivery.
Implement evidence-based instructional strategies and intervention programs appropriate for students with diverse learning and developmental needs.
Develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and provide positive behavioral supports in alignment with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
Utilize de-escalation strategies and crisis prevention techniques to maintain a safe learning environment.
Provide instruction in functional life skills, adaptive behavior, communication skills, and social skills as appropriate to student needs.
Integrate assistive technology and alternative communication systems (e.g., AAC devices, visual supports) as needed.
Coordinate and supervise paraprofessionals and instructional assistants assigned to the classroom, including delegation of responsibilities and instructional guidance.
Support students in accessing inclusive opportunities within the general education environment when appropriate.
Maintain accurate compliance records, service logs, Medicaid documentation (if applicable), and required state reporting.






















































Other Responsibilities:

Other duties as assigned by administration. 


Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment with work inside about 90% of the time and work outside about 10% of the work schedule.
 


FLSA Status:

Exempt                    

Salary Range:
Salary and benefits to be established in the Negotiated Agreement with the Board of Education. Commensurate with experience, however, the starting salary for the 2026-27 school year is $52,680.79.
 

Evaluation:

The Teacher will be evaluated following the provisions of the district's approved evaluation plan.
