DESCRIPTION
Join Übergrippen Indoor Climbing Crag as a part-time, hourly team member. Ubergrippen is an indoor rock climbing facility with locations in the Colorado Front Range (NE Denver and Castle Rock). Share your love of climbing by joining our team! This position will be 100% at Ubergrippen Denver (located in the Central Park Neighborhood in NE Denver).
The Team Member &Climbing Coach position is for adults (18 years and older with a high school diploma or equivalent) who are excited about rock climbing and strongly desire to learn more and share their stoke with our community! Our team members' role is to maximize the guest experience, introduce new people to the sport of climbing, and maintain and enhance our crag! Our climbing coaches bring their excitement for climbing to both kids and adults.
Job Duties
  • "The World Stops": Make positive customer engagement your #1 goal daily
  • Supervising guest activities and provide incident/emergency response if ever needed.
  • Providing facility orientations and certifications to new guests (including belay and lead climbing tests)
  • Continually engaging with customers throughout your shift to create an awesome and connected community
  • Front desk work (guest check-in, membership and day pass sales, answering questions by phone, email, and face-to-face)
  • Working with customers in our retail shop (providing gear recommendations, sizing support, and answering questions on products)
  • Teaching climbing classes with a close adherence to our written curriculum
  • Event staff (belaying, leading games/activities, and monitoring/supervising the event).

Compensation
  • Starting compensation is $19.50/hr with pay increases for staff after completing CWI and CPR certifications and basic job training, completing UG Youth Climbing Instructor training, and working regular youth program coaching shifts (2 classes per week) for 6 months, and/or becoming an advanced climbing instructor (teaching lead climbing and movement classes to UG's defined course curriculum).

REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 18 years of age & high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous climbing experience (1+ years preferred) and ability to pass a top rope belay certification.
  • Ability to climb at a 5.9 or higher level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of climbing movement and ability to lead classes teaching those skills
  • Ability to stand for the duration of shifts (4 hours minimum).
  • Ability to wear a climbing harness and perform top rope belay for others for 2 hours without a break.
  • Applicants must have weekday evening (4pm to 10:30pm) and weekend availability (8am to 8pm); Part-Time Team Member roles have very minimal daytime shifts Monday - Friday.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and over soft/uneven surfaces (e.g. soft padded bouldering flooring) while providing assistance to others.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with customers in person, on the phone, and via electronic messaging (e.g. e-mail).
  • Ability to lead groups (6 or more people) including providing clear verbal instructions, group management, a conflict resolution.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes up to 30 lbs without assistance from others.
  • Ability to work at a computer using standard computer interfaces (keyboard, mouse).
  • *On-the-job training* CPR/First Aid Certification
  • *On-the-job training* Climbing Wall Association (CWA) Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Certification
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
