Job Summary

Under the direction of radiologist, performs CAT scan or MRI Procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for imaging diagnosis Or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Essential Functions
  1. Patient and Room Preparation: This task includes a) entering patient data into RIS and other appropriate computer systems as necessary. b) Placing the patient on the scan table in the correct position for the scan to be performed. c) Obtain appropriate scout image for procedure. * Error-free data entry in computer systems. Room turnaround time of 5 minutes after completion of previous case (this also depends on other support services i.e. housekeeping). Ability to work in parallel so that nursing, medical, and technological staff are efficient.
  2. Obtain cross-sectional images: This task includes the proper setting of protocols and sequences to obtain high quality images for diagnosis by the radiologist. * Retake rate of less than 3 percent due to improper protocol and sequence settings or other reasons which are under the control of the technologist.
  3. Direct involvement during procedure: This task involves a) the assistance at the side of the radiologist during biopsy procedures as needed. b) Constant attention to the progression of the procedure while in the control room, monitoring progression of biopsy procedure c) Involved with operating injector when necessary. * Error-free sterile technique. Constant awareness of progression of procedure.
  4. Photographing and processing of images: This task includes photographing and labeling scan images, processing and displaying final images on viewing machines for radiologist interpretation. * High-quality, error-free labeling of photographic images and displaying those images in proper order.
  5. Establishes and confirms vascular access and injects contrast according to department protocol * Adequate access should be ascertained prior to contrast media injection. Verifying that the catheter is appropriate for the injection, assessing the access for backflow of blood, saline flush, and/or test injection with a power injector.
  6. Maintain all necessary records of image slices, injections, etc. * Error-free documentation of necessary records.
  7. Observe all rules and regulations regarding radiation safety for patients and staff. * Error-free observance of radiation safety procedures.
  8. Train other associates and students in CAT Scan or MRI procedures. * Knowledgeable information while training other associates and students.
  9. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of assigned area. * Clean and orderly work area.
  10. Perform duties of a 4T technologist as needed. * High quality cooperative performance.
  11. Perform other related assigned tasks.
Qualifications

High School Required Satisfactory completion of a formal radiologic technology training in and meets the requirements for certification by the ARRT.
