Job description

Responsible for oil and gas well operation, well testing, operating and maintaining field equipment and facilities. Responsible for surveillance of general field operations and maintenance of various databases regarding production operations. May monitor or lead the work of lower level operations specialists. Provides operational assistance to personnel based on specialty. Some duties may include, but not limited to, calibration of equipment, functional programming of various control systems, and AC DC troubleshooting. Responsible for assuring safe and environmentally sound operations, identifying problematic scenarios and implementing preventative measures in the assigned area or responsibility.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for analyzing automated facility performance regarding production operations
  • Advanced ability to provide basic technical and mechanical assistance to production operations personnel
  • Analyze various tickets, work orders, records, reports and other administrative reports to manage trends and to support recommendations to management and address electronic automation issues in the field.
  • Advanced understanding of oil and gas flow operations and various equipment
  • Train, mentor and coach less experienced technicians and conduct job safety analysis
  • Attend integrated solutions meetings and interact with engineers on automation solutions

Manage and support all areas of operations to ensure internal process and daily requirements are fulfilled

  • Coordinate with third party contractors to schedule and follow up on installation of PLC control hardware and various automation & measurement deviced.
  • Ensure all work assignments are carried out with the highest level of quality and safety precautions
  • Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all those associated with SM facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills

Has advanced of requirements of an automation system (Control Narrative, Cause & Effect, etc). The physical ability to immediately respond to emergency situations safely and efficiently. Ability to climb up to 30 feet in height. Strong operational and maintenance knowledge of wellhead equipment, Hydrocarbon tanks, Facility Process, analog devices (Pressure, Level, Temperature, & Flow) and accessories. Able to diagnose best fit applications based on engineering design. Able to supervise contractors in safe and efficient manner.

Ability to evaluate employees assigned to a crew, schedule major projects, and coordinate with other crews. Coordinate automation related activities with operations and maintenance department; support development, enhancement, and security of various telemetry systems. Oversee and coordinate various SCADA/I&E projects.

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma & 5 yearsโ€™ experience in control systems integration, instrumentation & maintenance
  • OR Associates Degree & 3 yearsโ€™ experience in control systems integration, instrumentation & maintenance
  • OR Bachelors Degree & 1 yearsโ€™ experience in control systems integration, instrumentation & maintenance
  • OR Journeymanโ€™s Electrical License & 3 yearsโ€™ experience in control systems integration, instrumentation & maintenance

Typical Experience: See above. Above experience in the Oil & Gas capacity is preferred along with:

  • Required experience in PLC programming
  • Required experience in instrumentation configuration, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Required experience in wireless communication, telemetry
  • Basic knowledge in ethernet communications
  • Experience in serial (RS485 RS232) modbus communications
  • Experience in basic AC DC circuitry, 3-phase power awareness, ohmโ€™s law, and general electrical installation code
