Job description

As a Controls Engineering Manager at Mujin, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing a team of engineers to design, implement, and optimize control systems for our advanced industrial automation solutions. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless integration of hardware and software, ensuring the efficient operation of complex robotic systems. Position Description:

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop control system architectures for Material Handling equipment and robotic applications
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and motion control systems Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in controls engineering
  • Experience in understanding schematics and control panels, translating conceptual designs into practical engineering solutions
  • Generate accurate and detailed electrical schematics for Robotic and Material Handling systems and various subsystems, including dedicated electrical enclosures, to facilitate efficient implementation and maintenance
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to ensure the manufacturing of electrical cabinets adheres to the highest industry standards, such as NEC (NFPA70) and UL508/UL508A, while maintaining uncompromising product quality 
  • Provide recommendations for productivity improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced customer satisfaction
  • Utilizes best practices in writing PLC programs from scratch
  • Guide overly complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer related to system design and product application
  • Apply advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently, including developing innovative solutions
  • Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, encouraging continuous learning and development 

 Position Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or comparable engineering degree
  • 10+ years of successful experience in related field for controls engineers with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Rockwell and Siemens)
  • Experience with writing functional safety programming 5+ years
  • Showcase industrial electrical design experience, with the ability to proficiently generate AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN drawings, ensuring accurate documentation and streamlined implementation 
  • Exhibit competence in reading specification sheets and procuring necessary electrical components from suppliers, ensuring adherence to project requirements and specifications 
  • Display comprehensive experience in the safeguarding, maintenance, and manipulation of industrial robots, ensuring their optimal performance and safety in various applications 
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop team members
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in material handling preferred or working as a system controls integrator
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the year, as required by project demands, allowing you to provide onsite support and engage with customers effectively 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience in design, research, and/or development in a warehousing related company 
  • Hands-on experience with six and seven-axis robot arm task creation, conveyor belt systems, industrial sensors, manufacturing, CNC, robotic tooling, etc. 
  • Experience with all major ethernet protocols: Ethernet IP, TCP/IP, MODBUS, IO-Link, etc.        
  • Work experience in design / R&D in a manufacturing or logistics related company 
  • Familiar with industrial safety with respect to robotic systems; RIA members a plus 

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:   

  • Travel Requirement:  Up to 25%, domestically 
  • Occasionally lift up to 25lbs 
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 
  • Ability to work extended hours as required
