OverviewThe Industrial Engineer (IE), Senior - Warehouse & Distribution designs, implements, improves, and sustains warehouse and distribution systems that support efficient material flow and operational performance. This role evaluates warehouse infrastructure, material handling systems, information systems, and operational workflows to develop scalable solutions that optimize safety, cost, quality, and delivery. Working closely with manufacturing operations (machining, assembly, warehouse, and shipping) and supply chain teams (purchasing, planning, trade & transportation), this role leads cross-functional initiatives to improve warehouse operations, internal factory logistics, inventory management, final shipping, and distribution processes that enable reliable production and efficient demand fulfillment.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and optimizes warehouse layouts, storage systems, and material presentation strategies to improve space utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Strategically plans, designs, and implements warehouse and factory logistics processes and toolsets after structured evaluation of alternatives.
  • Leads cross-functional initiatives to improve material flow across warehouse, manufacturing, and shipping operations.
  • Designs internal factory logistics systems including line-side replenishment, kitting strategies, supermarket inventory locations, and internal delivery routes.
  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives to optimize warehouse layout, material flow, storage density, and order fulfillment processes using lean and six sigma methodologies.
  • Develops and monitors operational performance metrics such as inventory accuracy, warehouse capacity utilization, and internal on time delivery.
  • Evaluates and implements material handling technologies including powered industrial trucks (PIT), conveyors, automated storage systems, vertical lift modules (VLM), and emerging automation technologies such as automated guided vehicles (AGV) or autonomous mobile robots (AMR).
  • Collaborates with operations planning and trade & transportation teams to design warehouse staging and dock processes that support efficient finished goods management and all related outbound shipping.
  • Supports capital planning and deployment of warehouse systems, automation technologies, and material handling equipment.
  • Mentors less experienced engineers and provides technical guidance on warehouse engineering, material flow design, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Applies advanced analytics and structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes of operational inefficiencies and implement sustainable improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong data analytics and problem-solving skills using statistical methods and appropriate toolsets.
  • Ability to evaluate complex operational systems and develop scalable engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of warehouse management systems, ERP/MRP platforms, and material flow engineering principles.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering (IE), or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or warehouse/logistics engineering environments.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and similar material planning and scheduling software platforms.
  • Advanced computer skills including 2D/3D CAD systems (AutoCAD/Inventor preferred), spreadsheets/databases, and data analytics tools.
  • Experience with warehouse design, inventory control systems and strategies, and material handling assets.
