Your work will help guarantee that projects meet design specifications, environmental regulations, and contractual requirements, making a direct impact on the success of critical infrastructure projects.

  • Project Oversight & Field Inspection: Monitor daily construction activities-including land clearing, grading, paving, bridge work, and traffic control-to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Material Sampling & Testing: Collect construction material samples and perform basic field tests to ensure adherence to project specifications and quality requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate inspection logs, prepare daily reports, track project progress, and document contractor payment details and any nonconformities.
  • Regulatory & Environmental Compliance: Inspect erosion control devices, review environmental measures, ensure compliance with permits, DBE, and EEO requirements.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Collaboration: Attend progress and safety meetings, interact with contractors, engineers, and client representatives, and provide timely updates on project status.

Who We're Looking For:

We are looking for detail-oriented professionals who take pride in quality and safety and enjoy working with their hands in outdoor environments, who have experience with transportation or civil construction projects, especially roadway and bridge inspection. Strong communication skills, the ability to interpret plans and specifications, and proficiency in documentation are essential. You should be adaptable, collaborative, and eager to learn.

Qualifications:

  • Education: You have one of the following education/experience combinations:
    • High school diploma/GED and 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
    • 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of highway-related construction experience
    • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Engineering Technology
  • Certifications: WV TRET Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Key Competencies
    • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
    • Strong math skills and understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure

This role involves hands-on work in outdoor environments, and with Company-provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), you'll need to be comfortable with:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions majority of the time
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day)
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Exposure to highway traffic, heavy machinery
  • Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
