Definition & Distinguishing Characteristics
Join the County of Colusa as a Road Maintenance Worker II and help keep our roads and infrastructure safe, reliable, and well-maintained! This journey-level position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled public works maintenance duties, operates light to moderately heavy equipment and endorsed trucks, and works independently with minimal supervision. Road Maintenance Worker IIs may also assist in training and mentoring less experienced staff while making a direct impact on the community every day. As part of a critical road maintenance team, you will help maintain roads across diverse areas-from the eastern, lower agricultural heartlands to the rolling hills of the western County. Your responsibilities will include patching roads, filling potholes, clearing debris, mowing, and managing road closures during inclement weather. You will also assist with major construction projects, help direct traffic around detours, and maintain large vehicles and machinery. This position provides the opportunity to be an integral part of the County's public works efforts while gaining hands-on experience in road maintenance.

Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.
Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
One year of increasingly responsible experience performing road maintenance work involving the operation of construction equipment.
Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Class A driver's license and may require endorsements and certificates.
Supplemental Information
The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15.
