Job description

Robotic Surgery Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

This is a 13-week contract position.

This position requires 36 or 48 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with evening call responsibilities until 11 PM, and no weekends or holidays.

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) plays a critical role in collaborating with the surgical team to ensure the safety and well-being of patients during robotic surgeries. The RNFA must possess both a CNOR certification and have completed an accredited RNFA program. This role includes practicing perioperative nursing, gaining the necessary skills and knowledge to provide optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with surgeons and healthcare teams in the operating room.
  • Assist during surgical procedures, acting under the direction of the surgeon.
  • Perform the duties of an OR staff RN when not actively in the RNFA role.
  • Maintain patient safety and optimal surgical outcomes throughout the perioperative process.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:

  • New York State Registered Professional Nurse License.
  • Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant course.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the operating room, preferably in a Level 1 trauma center.
  • CNOR Certification is required.
  • Robotic surgery experience in various specialties is required, including:
    • Robotic Urology
    • Robotic GYN
    • Robotic Colorectal
    • Robotic Surgical Oncology
    • Robotic Thoracic
    • Robotic General Surgery
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association is required; ACLS is preferred.
