Job Summary

The RN is a professional caregiver who provides skilled, compassionate care to patients with a variety of medical conditions. The RN must be able to assess, implement, and evaluate nursing care to a diverse group of patients using sound critical thinking and decisive judgement in accordance with approved policies, procedures, and protocols. Must have specific and basic knowledge in the principle, methods and techniques involved in nursing practice and the care of the acutely ill patient. Accepts responsibility for maintaining and improving professional skills essential to the area of clinical practice

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1. Administers medication and treatments in accordance with education, experience, and with approved nursing techniques.
  • 2. Provides physicians and other members of the health care team with accurate and timely information to promote continuity and excellence of care. Utilizes nursing process in the assessment, care, and documentation of care of patients. Prepares equipment and supplies and assists providers with treatment and examination of patients. Carries out physicians orders accurately and in a timely manner
  • 3. Accurately and appropriately documents patient care and treatments including, but not limited to, medications, vital signs, intake and output. Develops and documents a patient specific care plan for each inpatient within 24 hours of admission. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through appropriate charging of supplies and pharmacy items.
  • 4. Provides direct patient care according to established standards of care. Recognizes legal implications of patient care by obtaining appropriate consents. Is familiar with the Nurse Practice Act and practices within that framework at all times.
  • 5. Fosters a culture of teamwork by participating in orientation of new personnel, nursing staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • 6. Participates and completes special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree, preferred
  • At least one year of RN experience in acute care setting, preferred
  • One or more years recent telemetry or cardiac RN experience, preferred

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

  • 1. Current and unrestricted Washington State Nursing license
  • 2. Current BLS certification
  • 3. ACLS, required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 1. Working knowledge of nursing procedures and functions
  • 2. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patientโ€™s needs.
  • 3. Respects patientโ€™s right to privacy, protects confidential information following HIPAA standards and maintains accountability for patient safety.
  • 4. Knowledge of the organization, functions and activities of the nursing unit. Ability to organize and prioritize assigned work in coordination with other activities on the unit.
  • 5. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Ability to communicate and document information accurately and legibly. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • 6. Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products. Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment.
