What is an RN Float Pool PRN?

An RN Float Pool PRN is a Registered Nurse who works on an as-needed (PRN) basis in a hospital’s float pool, covering shifts in different departments where staffing is needed most. These nurses must be flexible and adaptable, as they may work in various units such as medical-surgical, ICU, or emergency. Float pool RNs help ensure adequate patient care by filling in for regular staff during absences or high census periods. The PRN designation means they do not have a set schedule but pick up shifts based on hospital needs and their own availability.
