Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner RN position supports the Trinity Health Ann Arbor (THAA) Emergency Department (ED).
  • This is a contingent position, requiring five 12-hour on-call shifts per month.
  • The THAA ED is a 54 bed Level 1 Trauma ER that provides comprehensive emergency care to patients of all ages treating over 90,000 patients annually. Learn more about our renovation and expansion online.
  • The ED offers a fast-paced, high-acuity environment that requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and teamwork.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • The SANE program provides a medical forensic examination and community resources for adolescents, 12 years of age and older who have been sexually assaulted.
  • SANE Nurses strive to facilitate the health process and ensure that patients are not further traumatized by an exam.
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) are Registered Nurses who specialize in the medical forensic care of the patient who has experienced sexual assault or abuse.
  • The SANE often collaborates with other disciplines in the community to provide services to victims and can serve as an expert witness in legal proceedings. SANE nurses collaborate with Police, Prosecutors and Counselors to provide coordinated care.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current Michigan Nursing License.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program is required.
  • Nurses who do not currently hold a BSN will be supported in obtaining their degree and must commit in writing to completing a BSN within five (5) years of their hire date.
  • ED, Critical Care, Women's Health, or Public Health experience preferred.
  • Current certification as a Sexual assault Nurse Examiner, experience with sexual assault survivors is desirable, but not required: SANE Training will be provided if needed.
