What is an RN Behavioral Health Visits?

RN Behavioral Health Visits are appointments where a registered nurse (RN) with training in behavioral health provides care and support to individuals experiencing mental health concerns. During these visits, the RN may assess mental health status, provide education about mental health conditions, administer medications, and coordinate care with other healthcare providers. These visits can take place in various settings, including clinics, hospitals, or patients' homes, and are crucial in helping manage conditions such as depression, anxiety, or substance use disorders. The goal is to support patients' mental well-being and connect them with appropriate resources.

Ongoing training and support from peers and supervisors also play a vital role in helping nurses navigate complex situations and deliver compassionate, safe care.

To thrive as an RN specializing in Behavioral Health Visits, you need a nursing degree, active RN license, and experience or certification in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing. Familiarity with mental health assessment tools, electronic health records (EHRs), and telehealth platforms is common in this role. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and crisis intervention abilities help build trust and effectively support patients.
