Job Summary
Headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia, Sun Tribe is one of the fastest growing clean energy companies in the Mid-Atlantic United States. Sun Tribe O&M provides best-in-class technical asset management and operations & maintenance services across a growing portfolio of operating solar and energy storage assets.

The Operations & Maintenance Technician III is responsible for ensuring the operational performance and reliability of our generation portfolio. This role requires advanced technical expertise in system monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and corrective repairs.

This role reflects an experienced technician who operates independently, leads field work, and serves as a technical resource for both internal teams and external stakeholders.

The role is primarily field based, with approximately 80% travel to project sites and 20% office work.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Fosters positive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Fosters a sense of trust and reliability on behalf of all asset owners and/or owner representatives by providing timely and accurate communication about all site issues.
  • Builds strong relationships with host facility staff and off-taker representatives through proactive communication and adherence to all site access guidelines. 

PLANNING AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Assists the O&M Manager with scheduling inspections and repairs
  • Develops detailed execution plans for assigned work orders, including tools, materials, and site coordination
  • Owns procurement of materials and parts, including requesting quotes and managing orders
  • Coordinates with site host representatives to facilitate site access
  • Submits required information to request warranty replacements via manufacturer RMA process

SYSTEM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

  • Serves as Team Lead for assigned field work, coordinating crews and ensuring successful execution
  • Independently performs preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) and completes detailed reporting
  • Responds to site outages and performs advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Leads and performs corrective repairs, including system component replacement and repair strategy
  • Documents all service visits and communicates findings in a timely and accurate manner
  • Owns monitoring responsibilities for assigned assets, including participation in weekend monitoring rotation
  • Diagnoses complex site issues independently, both remotely and onsite, utilizing cloud-based ticketing systems

SAFETY & TRAINING

  • Instills and adheres to the organization’s safety culture
  • Reports safety observations and utilizes stop-work authority as required
  • Continuously assesses job-related hazards and implements appropriate control measures
  • Properly utilizes PPE in compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E standards
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of electrical safety principles
  • Practices continuous learning and works toward subject matter expertise across major system components
  • Maintains required certifications and equipment operator licenses
  • Assists in training and mentoring technicians and electricians on technical processes

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of experience installing, troubleshooting, or maintaining utility-scale PV solar equipment

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong understanding of electrical, structural, and construction plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical equipment construction and operation
  • Experience with the National Electric Code (NEC)
  • Nextracker and/or ATI certification preferred
  • NABCEP certification (or equivalent) preferred
  • Strong computer and technical skills
  • Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver’s license

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 80% field work with frequent travel to project sites
  • Some evening and weekend work is required
  • Some periods of being on-call to address outages, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues affecting operating assets
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Frequent physical activity including walking, climbing, bending, and lifting (up to 40 lbs)
  • Exposure to construction site environments and hazards

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This position is classified as Full-Time Hourly, meaning employees are eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
