Commercial HVAC Service Technician

Position Summary

RM-MCI, LLC is seeking an experienced Commercial HVAC Service Technician to join our mechanical service team. This position focuses on commercial HVAC systems and requires strong diagnostic skills, professional communication, and the ability to work independently at multiple customer locations.

The technician will perform troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment start-up, and system evaluations for commercial facilities. We are looking for someone who takes pride in solving problems correctly, communicates clearly, and follows through on commitments.

Primary Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair commercial heating, cooling, ventilation, and control systems.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and document equipment condition.
• Service rooftop units, split systems, air handlers, fan coils, furnaces, heat pumps, exhaust systems, VAV systems, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical circuits, motors, compressors, refrigerant systems, sensors, thermostats, and control components.
• Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak testing in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Assist with troubleshooting VRF systems, building controls, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, and other commercial equipment when qualified.
• Clearly explain equipment conditions, recommended repairs, and replacement needs.
• Prepare accurate service reports describing the problem, diagnosis, work performed, materials used, and recommended follow-up.
• Obtain authorization before performing work outside the approved service scope.
• Maintain assigned tools, equipment, parts inventory, and company vehicle.
• Follow company safety requirements and applicable mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-handling standards.
• Communicate promptly when repairs cannot be completed, additional parts are required, or conditions change.
• Provide professional and respectful service to customers, property managers, facility personnel, and other trades.

Minimum Qualifications

• Commercial HVAC service or maintenance experience.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Working knowledge of refrigerant systems and proper service procedures.
• EPA Section 608 certification.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, specifications, and control schematics.
• Ability to use meters, gauges, vacuum pumps, recovery equipment, and standard HVAC diagnostic tools.
• Valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple service calls, and complete required documentation.
• Ability to safely lift and carry equipment, climb ladders, access rooftops, and work in mechanical rooms and outdoor conditions.
• Professional communication and customer-service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• New Mexico journeyman certification or other applicable trade credentials.
• Five or more years of commercial HVAC service experience.
• Experience with VRF/VRV equipment.
• Experience with commercial controls and building automation systems.
• Experience servicing boilers, hydronic systems, chillers, cooling towers, DOAS units, and commercial kitchen ventilation systems.
• Manufacturer training or certifications.
• Experience performing equipment start-up and commissioning.
