Position Summary:
This position provides risk control services to BITCO's mid-sized commercial customers and conducts risk control evaluations for prospective accounts in support of the Underwriting team within an assigned territory. As a client-facing role, this position requires the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and provide professional risk control guidance while building strong relationships with policyholders and business partners. Responsibilities include identifying and evaluating workplace hazards, assessing operational risks, documenting findings, and developing practical recommendations to help customers improve safety, reduce losses, and support effective risk management practices. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, critical thinking, and the ability to deliver consultative solutions that align with both customer needs and BITCO's underwriting objectives.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates risk control and safety situations for current customers and prospective customer accounts
  • Identifies priorities for service and recommends risk improvements
  • Prepares reports to customers and underwriting teams, identifying risk control and safety issues and making recommendations
  • Advises customers of risk control and safety hazards and provides recommendations to assist customers in managing their exposure to loss
  • Advises BITCO management and underwriters of analysis of loss data for making pricing decisions, the selection of prospective customers, and the retention of current customers
  • Assists the policyholder management in developing risk control practices and procedures and assist in training customer management and staff in risk control and safety related topics
  • Performs customer visits and activities in accordance with department expectations
  • Obtain and apply product line expertise to ensure good loss experience outcomes and reflect a high level of understanding of operations, exposures, safety processes and control within the respective industry group
  • Participate in the branch agency business plan and the preferred customer business program
  • Advise BITCO management and underwriters of changes in customer operations or financial conditions
  • Foster new business development through quality agency relationships and effective customer interactions
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 1+ years of experience as a Risk Control Consultant/Loss Control Consultant with experience in the areas of Commercial Construction; Forestry; Public Entities; or Oil and Gas preferred
  • Professional safety certification (CSP, ARM, or other) preferred; or willingness to obtain
  • OSHA/MSHA/DOT knowledge preferred
  • Progressive working knowledge of customer safety programs, state and federal regulations, and general insurance and policy terms
  • Good communication skills; ability to convey knowledge to others
  • Ability to develop and maintain good customer relations
  • Effectively communicate in person, by telephone, and email with supervisors, co-workers, customers and their representatives, and other third parties
