Position Summary:
The Rig Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the workover rig and associated equipment during well servicing, completion, and workover operations. This role requires thorough knowledge of rig equipment, safety protocols, and oilfield operations to ensure that work is performed safely and in compliance with company and industry standards.
Key Roles / Responsibilities:
  • Operates and controls workover rig equipment including hoisting, derrick, and pumps.
  • Ensures proper handling, installation, and removal of wellbore components such as tubing, rods, and casing.
  • Maintains accurate rig positioning and alignment over wellheads during operations.
  • Enforces all safety guidelines and regulations during rig operations.
  • Conducts pre-job safety meetings and ensure crew compliance with safety procedures.
  • Monitors site conditions, hazards, and equipment wear and tear to prevent accidents or equipment failures.
  • Supervises rig crew during all phases of well servicing operations.
  • Assigns tasks to crew members and provides necessary training to improve performance.
  • Ensures efficient communication with the crew, supervisors, and any third-party service providers.
  • Performs regular maintenance checks on rig equipment to ensure readiness for operations.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots mechanical issues, coordinating repairs when necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the rig and work area.
  • Communicates with clients, field supervisors, and other stakeholders regarding the progress of operations.
  • Provides timely reports on operational status, equipment use, and well conditions.
  • Ensures efficient rig-up and rig-down procedures.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Workover Rig Operator or in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of workover operations, well servicing procedures, and rig mechanics.
  • Certification in rig operations, well control, and other relevant safety programs is preferred.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Valid CDL is a plus.

Working Conditions:
  • Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
  • The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
