The Starting Rate for this position is $16.23
POSITION SUMMARY:
Custodians perform repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of simple building cleaning. Employees in this class work under general supervision on routine and recurring cleaning assignments, receiving specific instructions on any new requests from their manager. The work performed is reviewed by inspection. Employees must be thorough and dependable. A custodian does related work as required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not necessarily limited to:
  • Sweeps, mops, and maintains floors and stairwells.
  • Cleans windows and sills and polishes all stainless steel.
  • Dusts woodwork, furniture, lobbies, cubicles, and other articles.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, toilets, sinks, urinals, and replenishes supplies.
  • Empties waste cans and recycling.
  • Cleans, and polishes brass.
  • Vacuums carpets and upholstered chairs, and all over base.
  • Wipe and sanitize all public bathroom walls around urinals and toilets.
  • Reports any repairs needed to manager.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous background in custodial work required.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to manage time in an efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods, and supplies.
  • Ability to use cleaning supplies economically and efficiently.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English at a level which requires the individual to perform satisfactorily work as instructed.
  • Physical presence within the Buildings and Facility is required.
  • Ability to handle stress.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Individual must be capable of repetitive standing, pulling, pushing, bending, reaching, squatting, climbing, and walking for periods at a time as well as the ability to lift or carry a minimum of 40 lbs.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Environment may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following safety precautions. Work of this nature may involve exposure to various elements such as dirt, dust, smoke, fumes, loud noises, and unpleasant odors. This position may require the ability to perform routine custodial duties on various floors. Candidates must adhere to all county and departmental policies that relate to this position.
