Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff (level 5) Systems Engineer RIA - AVE Technical Lead to join the Sentinel Systems Engineering team located in Roy, UT. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.
What you will get to do:
The selected engineer will be a Systems Engineering SME and responsible for driving technical rigor into work products for the Requirements, Interfaces, and Architecture (RIA) teams for the Aerospace Vehicle Equipment (AVE) Segment. The engineer will be responsible for leading team of 5-10 systems engineers and performing tasking. This includes providing technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers as they execute tasking involving interface definition, requirement decomposition, and compliance tracking.
The selected candidate will be reporting to the AVE RIA Lead. They would be responsible for assisting in oversight and execution of requirements development, verification, interface development and architecture development in the AVE Segment-System. The individual must be capable of leading a team in a highly dynamic environment and managing multiple priorities. The individual must be able to communicate effectively with upper management and customers.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Key Reviewer and oversight of the AVE Requirements Verification Plan for the Segment
  • Requirement development, decomposition, and refinement based on knowledge of the functional architecture and performance budgets
  • Ensure architecture is consistent with requirements decomposition
  • Lead verification planning for the AVE segment requirements. Verification planning will transition into verification execution which includes development and review of verification artifacts, requirement verification report generation, and management of the approval process
  • Support TMRR execution including Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Milestone B re-certification
  • Support to incremental CDR execution eventually culminating in an AVE CDR (includes execution of CDR, readiness assessment)
  • Support to flight design review (FDR)
  • Work in a collaborative environment, across all system functions. Work with teammates across a wide variety of disciplines and get intimately familiar with all aspects of the Missile

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) with 12 years of experience; or master's degree with 10 years of experience; or PhD with 8 years of experience
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
  • Must have the ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • 5 years of Systems Engineering experience
  • 2 or more years of leading a team
  • 2 or more years of experience in the full life cycle of Systems Engineering (requirements definition/decomposition, requirements/system verification, etc.)
  • 2 or more years of experience with requirements development, MBSE and/or verification planning

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in requirements development on Sentinel program
  • Experience running trade studies and negotiating requirements and/or design features with the USAF customer
  • Experience with complex system development on large programs
  • Experience in being a CAM/WPL and tracking EVMS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Technical leadership experience in Systems Engineering
  • Experience with Engineering Board Processes
  • Experience with Critical Design Review planning and/or execution
  • Active TS clearance

This position's standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
