An exciting opportunity exists for experienced RF/Microwave/CAD engineers to join our MMIC and module design and characterization teams in the RF Microelectronics/Module Development & Foundry Services department at Raytheon in Andover, MA. This department develops, designs, and manufactures compound semiconductor devices, microwave/millimeter-wave integrated circuits, and modules for defense applications.

The ideal candidates for these roles will have a broad understanding of RF/microwave design, layout and/or test. The successful candidates will develop Raytheon’s state-of-the-art MMIC and Module products that support air and missile defense systems and radars. Using advanced semiconductor and module technologies, they will be responsible for one or more parts of the complete product cycle through MMIC and module modeling, design, CAD layout, test, and prototyping.

What You Will Do

  • Design and/or test MMIC or module products and test fixtures at RF/microwave frequencies
  • Develop insights that extend your knowledge in the RF/Microwave field and form the basis of new concepts, theories, and products.
  • Design RF structures and transitions for multi-layer, multi-channel RF Modules and analog circuitry enabling both receive and transmit behavior
  • Consult across MMIC design, module design, test and assembly teams
  • Create layouts and perform design checks and physical verification on RF Integrated Circuits (RFIC) and Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMIC)
  • Prepare designs for photomask order and delivery into Raytheon’s III-V Semiconductor Fab
  • Act independently to troubleshoot, uncover and resolve issues
  • Perform RF/microwave/millimeter-wave measurements on GaAs and GaN devices, modules and MMICs (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits)
  • Perform fixtured and on-wafer probe measurements
  • Assemble RF/microwave/millimeter-wave test systems
  • Use software to control test equipment and plot test results
  • Research and develop new technology that results in new product/business opportunities for Raytheon
  • Serve as a technical resource and represent the Department as a technical contact to Raytheon and external customers

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • Experience in RF/microwave/mm-wave design, layout, reliability or test.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Broad background in theory and techniques of microwave/mm-wave circuits, design, and test
  • Experience with Circuit Simulation tools such as ADS, and EM tools such as HFSS, Momentum
  • Experience designing RF/Microwave MMIC circuits, modules or test fixtures
  • Experience in thermal modeling and analysis.
  • Experience of different topology trade-offs, process and active/passive component selection, system/sub-system level, gain-loss analysis and flowing down requirements from the system to the component level
  • Layout experience in Mentor Graphics’ Xpedition, Cadence Virtuoso or AutoCAD
  • Experience with analytical tools such as Matlab, Python, or JMP
  • Experience with RF/Microwave test equipment such as Performance Network Analyzers (PNAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), Spectrum Analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Noise Figure Analyzers, Load-Pull systems etc
  • Experience with GaAs and/or GaN MMIC devices
  • Experience with integrated circuit layout and physical verification using Cadence Virtuoso software tools
  • Familiarity with semiconductor processing and concepts, e.g. technologies like GaAs, GaN, SOI
  • Programming skills such as scripting, Skill, Python, etc.
  • Knowledge of the Linux Operating System.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
