Revit Api Python information

What is Revit API Python?

Revit API Python refers to using the Autodesk Revit Application Programming Interface (API) with the Python programming language to automate tasks, customize workflows, and extend the functionality of Revit software. While the official Revit API is written in .NET languages such as C#, developers commonly use Python through tools like RevitPythonShell, pyRevit, or Dynamo. These tools enable architects, engineers, and BIM specialists to write Python scripts that interact with Revit models, making repetitive tasks more efficient and opening up advanced possibilities for design automation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Revit API Python developer?

To thrive as a Revit API Python Developer, you need a solid background in software development, strong proficiency in Python programming, and a deep understanding of Autodesk Revit and its API. Familiarity with tools like Revit add-ins, Dynamo, and version control systems, along with relevant certifications in BIM or Autodesk products, is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart in this field. These competencies are crucial for efficiently automating workflows, customizing Revit functionality, and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.

How does a Revit API Python developer typically collaborate with architects and BIM managers in a project setting?

A Revit API Python developer works closely with architects and BIM managers to automate repetitive tasks, customize workflows, and enhance design processes within Revit. Collaboration often involves gathering requirements from design teams, developing scripts or plugins to address specific project needs, and providing technical support to ensure smooth implementation. Regular meetings and feedback sessions are common, allowing developers to refine their solutions based on user input and evolving project goals. This partnership helps streamline project delivery and improves overall efficiency for the design team.

Forward Deployed Architect, Texas

Swapp

Key responsibilities

  • Sit with Texas firms to understand their workflows and collect feedback on Frank's performance.

  • Onboard teams, troubleshoot issues, and promote the use of Frank across projects and offices.

  • Translate real-world documentation needs into clear instructions for architects and engineers, and configure Frank to meet each firm's standards.

Job description

SWAPP builds Frank, an agentic AI architect that reads and writes the live BIM model inside Autodesk Revit and Graphisoft ArchiCAD, executing real documentation, modeling, and QA work for many of the world’s leading architecture firms. We pair deep architectural domain knowledge with optimization, computational geometry, and modern AI to put genuine automation on the critical path of production. Our team brings together architects, engineers, AI researchers, and data scientists across Tel Aviv and the US.

The role

The Forward Deployed Architect is our person on the inside. You do not advise from a distance and you do not build in a vacuum. You plant yourself within a customer’s office and stay until Frank is delivering on their real projects. Working out of our Texas customers’ studios, you will learn each team’s workflow first hand, collect the requests and rough edges as they surface day to day, make sure people are happy with what Frank is doing, and feed everything you learn back into the product. It is a role for an architect who likes solving problems in the room and shaping what gets built next.

What you’ll do
  • Sit with your Texas firms week to week, working from their offices and becoming part of how the studio runs.
  • Make Frank stick on live work: onboard teams, unblock issues quickly, and grow usage across projects and offices.
  • Translate messy, real-world documentation needs into precise direction for our architects and engineers.
  • Configure Frank to each firm’s standards and conventions, and prove the value on a real project rather than a demo.
  • Sit in on product and feature definition, bringing the voice of the firm into what SWAPP builds and ships.
You are
  • A mid-level architect in active practice, with about 5 to 7 years on production teams.
  • Strong in Revit. This is non-negotiable: CD sets, coordination, and BIM standards are second nature to you.
  • A natural relationship builder who wins over principals, BIM managers, and drafters by being useful, not by selling.
  • Technically curious, energized by product work, and calm when the problem is not yet fully defined.
  • Based in Texas and glad to spend most of your time on customer sites. Strong candidates elsewhere in the US are welcome too.
Bonus
  • Hands-on BIM management: template, family, and standards ownership.
  • Scripting or automation chops (Dynamo, Python, or the Revit API).
  • Familiarity with ADA and accessibility requirements.
Working at SWAPP
  • Work directly with a senior, product-driven team and see your work reach leading firms fast.
  • Real ownership and impact from day one, on a product that sits on the critical path of real projects.
  • We value curiosity, candor, and a Be-Nice attitude: genuine care for your teammates and our customers.
