Ready to shape the future of science and global health? A global nonprofit that provides trusted biological materials for science and health, ATCC is hiring a Technical Writer. This onsite position in Manassas, VA supports ATCC Federal Solutions by researching, organizing, writing, reviewing, and editing scientific and technical information for use in documentation across multiple platforms. Working in a science-focused environment, the Technical Writer helps create consistent, accurate, and compliant documentation, reviews scientific literature and data, and supports website content and document accessibility initiatives.
Seeking a Technical Writer, ideally with a biology or life sciences background and experience supporting scientific documentation and technical content management. Background in molecular biology, microbiology, or bacteriology highly preferred. Responsibilities
  • Technical Documentation Development: Develop, write, edit, and review reports, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), product information sheets, proposals, and related technical documentation.
  • Content Creation: Create instructional, descriptive, reference, and informational documentation including manuals, work instructions, protocols, and supporting materials.
  • Scientific Research & Review: Review scientific literature and data to authenticate documented manufacturing specifications and support technical content accuracy.
  • Documentation Quality & Compliance: Integrate information from multiple sources into a consistent style and language while ensuring documentation meets editorial specifications, quality standards, format requirements, and ISO certification standards.
  • Document Revision & Maintenance: Edit existing documentation and collaborate with initiators to rewrite, clarify, or reconstruct procedures, specifications, and forms as directed.
  • Website & Project Support: Support website maintenance activities, add information to web detail pages, assist with document accessibility efforts, and adhere to project scope and timelines.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience, or equivalent experience (Master's degree and 0 years, or HS Diploma and 6 years).
  • Technical writing and editing experience.
  • Experience reviewing scientific literature and technical data to support documentation accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain documentation quality, consistency, and compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer skills required for website maintenance and data mining.
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to integrate information from multiple sources into a uniform style and language.
  • Preferred: Biology, life sciences, or scientific background supporting technical and scientific documentation.
  • Preferred: Background in molecular biology, microbiology, or bacteriology.

Benefits
The expected salary range for this position is $68,000 to $75,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
