SENIOR MANAGER, REVENUE
 
Location; Novato, CA
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
 
The Senior Manager, Revenue will play a key leadership role within the Accounting organization of a commercial-stage biotechnology company. This position will oversee revenue recognition, gross-to-net accounting, accounts receivable, and related close activities to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, ASC 606, SOX requirements, and company policies. The Senior Manager will partner closely with Commercial, Market Access, Trade, Finance, Legal, Compliance, IT, Supply Chain, and external auditors to support scalable revenue processes, evaluate complex commercial arrangements, strengthen internal controls, and enable continued growth across existing and future product launches.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Lead the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, including preparation and review of revenue journal entries, account reconciliations, revenue analytics, flux explanations, and supporting workpapers.
  • Oversee gross-to-net accounting for commercial product revenue, including rebates, chargebacks, returns, co-pay assistance, distribution fees, government programs, and other reserves, ensuring estimates are supportable, well-controlled, and aligned with current business trends.
  • Serve as a revenue accounting subject matter expert for ASC 606 and U.S. GAAP, including review of customer contracts, distribution arrangements, payer agreements, launch-related programs, and other commercial arrangements to determine appropriate accounting conclusions.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting memoranda, revenue accounting policies, significant judgment documentation, and audit-ready support for internal management, external auditors, and SOX compliance.
  • Manage day-to-day order-to-cash accounting activities, including accounts receivable, cash application, collections support, deductions, and related balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Commercial, Market Access, Trade, Finance, FP&A, Legal, Compliance, IT, and Supply Chain teams to understand business activities, evaluate accounting impacts, and support accurate revenue reporting.
  • Support new product, indication, channel, and geographic launch readiness by assessing revenue accounting implications, developing scalable processes, implementing controls, and coordinating system and reporting requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance SOX control documentation, process narratives, risk-control matrices, and evidence standards related to revenue, gross-to-net, accounts receivable, and order-to-cash processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement, automation, and data analytics initiatives to improve the accuracy, efficiency, transparency, and scalability of revenue accounting operations.
  • Review work performed by direct reports, contractors, or shared service resources, providing clear guidance, coaching, and timely feedback to support high-quality execution and professional development.
  • Prepare and review government pricing, Medicaid, Medicare, and other compliance-related reporting inputs, as applicable, in partnership with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Support internal and external audit requests, quarterly reviews, year-end audit procedures, and management reporting related to revenue accounting and gross-to-net activities.
  • Perform ad hoc analyses, special projects, and accounting initiatives as needed to support the growth and maturity of the revenue accounting function.

 
QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Progressive accounting experience with significant experience in revenue accounting, gross-to-net accounting, or related areas.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition requirements.
  • Experience with gross-to-net accounting, including rebates, chargebacks, returns, co-pay assistance, distribution fees, and government programs.
  • Experience with accounts receivable, order-to-cash processes, and related balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience developing and maintaining SOX controls, process documentation, risk-control matrices, and audit support.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to evaluate complex commercial arrangements and document accounting conclusions.
  • Experience supporting product launches, new channels, or other business initiatives with revenue accounting and control requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to review work, provide coaching, and oversee direct reports, contractors, or shared service resources.
  • Experience driving process improvement, automation, and data analytics initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry preferred.
