Job description

We are seeking an experienced journalist based on the West Coast for Reuters Live Pages.

Live Pagesare a direct-to-consumer scrolling multimedia feed of text, video, pictures,graphics,and social media in a mobile-first presentation for the biggest stories of the day.

About the role:

As Americas Live Pages Editor you will:

  • Coordinate with reporters around the world to cover the biggest stories - political, business, entertainment and general news, wherever they occur, and be prepared to pivot quickly as news breaks.

  • Bring ideas, energy, and enthusiasm to a versatile cross-discipline team.

  • Relish the challenge of helping grow LiveCoverage as a core part of the Reuters newsroom.

  • Use a diverse mix of storytelling formats, including photos, videos, graphics, social media posts and podcasts as well as text.

  • Ensure our pages are engaging and conversational but authoritative, accurate and impartial, taking care with presentation to make sure they look polished on both desktop and mobile.

  • Work closely with the digital team and bureaus to plan for future Live Pages and prepare material for them.

  • Use audience insights and performance data to inform daily decisions.

  • Manage Live Pages that began in other regions during their dayside hours as well as launching new Live Pages for events that occur within the dayside hours of the Americas, before handing over to the Asia-based team when they start their day.

  • Be a team player who is prepared toshareyour own skillsets and acquire those of others, while helping coach and develop more junior team members.

About You

You're a good fit for the role if you:

  • Have extensive experience managing coverage of breaking news.

  • Experience publishing/direct injecting content is a must.

  • Have strong knowledge of and experience covering U.S. politics.

  • Are passionate about reaching online and mobile audiences through visually engaging, informative news coverage.

  • Have experience managing a team either in person or virtually.

  • Can write accurately and at speed, with superb copy-editing skills that include working with complex, legally and sociallysensitivestories, ensuring adherence to Reuters Trust Principlesin a fast-moving situation.

  • Have strong digital and multimedia expertise and familiarity with the needs of a digital audience. Experienceoptimizingstories for search (SEO), as well as an understanding of analytics, are a plus, as is prior experience of working with a live news webpage format.

  • Can remain calm under pressure, with the ability to make quick and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Have good communication skills, a strong team ethic, diplomacy and collaboration skills.
